Q: Is it best to crop pics like this even if the original aspect ratio is completely lost?
^ In my opinion there is no real reason to stick to the original aspect ratio for something like POTD postings. If it's going to print output, then you need to keep the aspect ratio of the intended paper in mind. I have cropped shots to remove stuff I don't want in the photo like too much sky and the like.

Thanks, that's what I figured... in fact, many art shops around town sell this exact print (not taken by me) in a very cropped wide aspect ratio... so I guess even printing's not necessarily an excuse to keep the original aspect ratio. :)

Since I moved my PP from PS to A3, I have been trying to stick to the original aspect ratio when cropping because it is so easy. It also is helping me to use as much of the viewfinder as possible when I compose a shot.

Today's post is cropped a little better. I like this one, the kid is darling. Thanks for the comments on the previous one too. On that one I was debating on cropping out the crowd but... it's a fashion show and I wanted to leave the crowd in to add to the image. You'll probably like this one better though. The kids at this event were so cheezy and cute, I got a few really cool photos out of it.
