Dawn at the Hell Fire Club

Taken at 6am. This is one of the few months of the year where the sun illuminates the front of the Hell Fire Club building on Mountpelier Hill in Dublin, but only for about an hour at dawn.

Barrow-in-Furness, last night, and the shipyard where they make nuclear submarines. Rule Britannia...

First thing I learned about photography: Dawn or Dusk and not in-between. Next thing I need to learn is tripod tripod tripod!:D

I learned all that stuff about dawn and dusk too... but then I kind of unlearned it... and now, unless the sky is an unclouded blue, I shoot throughout the day. I do use a tripod for all my shots... and that's made a big difference...

Great lighting... Can you share your techniques?

It was rather simple, really.

We were under a bridge, where all the graffiti in town is located. :p I placed my brother closer to one side (to get more light) at 10:00 this morning, and used my car's windshield sunshades to fill in a bit of the shadows on his other side. Voila! the shot was taken. :D

After I get some more natural lighting techniques down, I'd really like to invest in and play with a strobe...

Was rifling through some photo's today and found this one which has always been a good one that I have liked.

Back in 2006 I was taking 2mp pictures to keep the memory card free. Pity I didn't take it in higher resolution!

Wheeping rocks in Zion National Park

This is tremendous. The rock has such an awe-inspiring presence, which the light and the use of black really emphasises. The white dots in the top half could be stars (maybe they are). Also it's good to see the water captured with a relatively fast shutter speed which picks up the individual drops, rather than a slow one which gives a blur. This picture wouldn't be as good if the water was blurred IMHO.

I recommend clicking on this one and viewing the large size, as the small size doesn't do it justice.

Nice exposure - curious as to why you went to ISO 800... maybe you had it set to Auto-ISO and your camera tried to compensate for the use of a CPL? It's not as if it really hurts the image, just more of an idle question.

Thank you for the compliment. Your comment is much appreciated because I'm just a beginner. The white dots in the top half is also water, from the weeping rock above. This picture is taken on a sunny day, at presumably the worst time of day, around 2 o'clock. But in this picture it works out very nice.

:)
