The family. I was amazed at how all bar 1 of the kids were looking at the camera for this shot. Then I remembered that the timer was flashing and they must have been looking at that.

I had a lot of catching up to do! Anyway, I'm out of new recent shots, so I went back a bit further. I'm pretty sure I haven't already shared this one. It was taken back in early November.

This is the newest addition to the family, my niece Ella at her Baptism on her uncle's (the Godfather) shoulder.

Yesterday's post was changed and TMIG was stated as the reason.

What did I do wrong? What is TMIG? Thanks in advance - Russ

Nothing wrong. Just a courtesy to other users. In general images > 800 pixels wide break the forum format. These are best posted as TIMG (thumbnail images) instead of IMG. The full size can be seen by clicking on it.

B, thanks for the info. I'm new to the group and I didn't know. I'll use thumbnail in the future - as soon as I figure out how it's done.

Don't fall into the "I'm only an amateur trap." That word has nothing to do with skill level.... it simply means that you do it strictly for the love of it, and have a paying job doing something else. In other words - you are smart enough to not be trying to make a living making pictures!

I've known "amateurs" who could shoot circles around many many pros, and pros who couldn't shoot a sharp photo if their life depended on it.... they were merely good at marketing themselves.

That is a wonderful photo you've contributed. Personally, I would try cropping the bottom just slightly - just to remove the out of focus bits, or at least most of that bit. That way the photo will read sharp to soft (bottom to top, i.e. near to far). At the moment it reads soft to sharp to soft again... not as clear a message. ... imho, only ....

I like palette, and the story, and the composition. I like the way my eye moves from near figure to the far one, then along the horizon back towards the near figure.

Thank you snberk103 for taking the time to comment and critique my photo, I appreciate it. Your cropping suggestion sounds good.

This is a thread dedicated to looking at photos. Why do we have to click on each one to get the full (and intended) experience?

What is the "forum format" and how do linked images over 800 px wide "break" it?

Uploads are limited to 1.44MB, but how do linked images take up space on the MR servers?

This has been discussed before and never resolved. Please post a link to the MR forum rules that limits photos to 800 px. I've looked and could never find it.

One of my posts either this week or last was edited for the same reason by the same mod/admin and I almost brought it up, but I figured maybe I was tired and just screwed up the post and the guy was trying to fix it. It was the same 1024 wide(and linked) that is commonly posted in these threads, yet was the only one singled out.

Unfortunately I can't split your post and move it to the appropriate location to have this discussion. It is off-topic for this thread, so if you want to actually discuss this, please create a new thread in to Site and Forum Feedback. Or use the Contact Us link to reach the admin staff as well.

EDIT: Here is one thread on the topic if you would like to just add to that. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/585188/

Why are you(seemingly) randomly enforcing this if it is such a problem?

It seems most users of this thread are happy with 1024px wide images. (As we've been posting for many years now)

I share the belief that reducing these images to TIMGs (except for quoting) break the flow and success of this thread.

We need to organize something to present in the Site and Forum Feedback thing. This has been discussed before - I'll try to find PDXflint's last thread - and it is never resolved. There is nothing in the MR rules that limit pic size. We have put too much effort into creating this thread as a gallery of great photos to let it get messed up. Can you imagine clicking thumbnails to view all images?

Off to start the January thread. Feel free to post.
