There's also a probably more advanced App for this (that happens to be more expensive as well...): Helios, http://www.chemicalwedding.tv/helios.html. It shows the direction of the sun rays as a Google Maps overlay for any time, not just sunrise and sunset.

EDIT: Just saw that TPE can do this as well, sorry.

I’ve been taking notes, these past few weeks, about the best times to photograph particular places (assuming I don’t get the pix I want on my first visit). It matters most, to me, when photographing buildings. I prefer the front of a building to be lit, but from an angle (ie not ‘head on’), so I can photograph from the opposite angle (that is... if the facade of a building was a mirror, I’d see the sun reflected in it... if that makes sense).

Then I saw these apps for the iPad, which do a similar job (but saving on petrol...). This morning I downloaded LightTrac (£3.49... just over $5...), and it’s perfect for me. Nothing too complex or sophisticated... just allowing me to zoom in on any building and work out - in seconds - the optimum time of the day to turn up. Brilliant!

This shot, for example, would be better (more ‘3D’) with the sun at more of an angle to the front. I'll know better next time... ;)

Jessica I liked your shot up there too, that was nifty!
Thank you very much.
Beautiful color palette and very smooth bokeh.
Thank you as well. :)

I have another crop of the above (the above is also a crop of the original) and I couldn't decide which was better. Maybe this isn't the place to ask or upload two shots but it's two crops of the same file so it's only cheating in theory.

Catherine's two-handed forehand...

Learning badminton for the first time is a bit of a challenge for this determined kid...what she lacked in skill, she made up for with persistence.

My son in a very rare still moment. He does not cooperate with the camera so it is difficult to catch him. Luckily there was a roaring river outside & he didn't hear me! Today is his 9th birthday.
