Another from the car show.

To me car shots aren't easy in terms of getting something truly interesting. I would see what you can do about cropping the white car (dodge??) out alongside the pastie white legs.

Agreed, I just did that and it looked a hundred times better. That place was soooo cramped. They do it every year on the main drag in Cedar and they shut down like 3 blocks and fill them with cars and vendors. Most of the time your pushed up against the cars almost. Which is sad really because some of those cars at car shows are amazing. The red one is a Dodge, and I think the white one... is a Corvette.

ahhaha@pastie! :D

I'm not a photographer, but I've gotta tell you guys - this is my favorite thread on MR. Unbelievable work. All of you are just astounding.

I would try a tighter crop, moving the subject out of slap bang in the centre, also remember that selective colouring is only one overused tool in the bag. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply :)
I cropped the photo but didn't like it...and this was taken in like 2 seconds because i was just moving by and saw him...
thanks anyways :)

Try using the quick mask tool instead of the polygon lasso. Much better for something like that. Less tedious too.

Quick Mask Tool Guide

That's great! really helpful...thanks! :)

I don't mind the kid being in the middle... or the selective colouring. It's a sad pic: the flip-side to all those pix of kids having fun. It makes me want to give the poor little mite a hug, and ask him what's troubling him...

Gotta disagree with a couple of comments. The PP 'treatment' can't put detail back into a blown-out sky... and I'm not keen on the monochrome shade of blue, or the slanted horizon...

I don't think he was going for detail in the sky, its more artistic than anything. I, for one, love the shade of blue and think the blown out sky adds a nice creative touch to the image. Well done.

I like this one a lot. The boy's position is perfect!

Thanks a lot! though i messed up on editing...i am new to photography that's why...:)

Thanks! this pic was clicked at the end of the day...all the kids were really tired by that point...and they looked so cute :)
thanks again!

Great lighting and detail. Any sort of fill light used in this one or were you just very lucky with perfect natural light?
Dale

No fill light used, it is an early evening light, although he is mostly in shadow. The heron (I think) was at least 100 meters away. It's a fairly significant crop of the original image. The unfortunate part (for me anyway) is that I had been in the location shooting a small waterfall. He swooped in and plunged for a fish that was jumping up river. I had to swap off the wide angle and throw on my 300mm. I waited, hoping that he would make another plunge, but it got too dark and I left him there. This particular moment is him shaking some of the water off from that initial dunk.
