What kind of exposure settings? I'd like to give that kind of shot a shot next time. :)

I'm heading to a hopefully deserted location to shoot this Saturdays show. What my exclusive. :D

From my EXIF and reviewing images it seems that 2-3 seconds at f/6-10 and ISO 200-320 works best. It all depends on the brightness of the fireworks as each burst is different and the ambient light. Shoot RAW as you can then change it later. The key factor to keep in mind is the shutter speed though as it effects the fireworks more than any other setting. Have fun!

My submission for today from last night. Taken from Jericho beach.

Wow, that duck at the back looks like he's been in a few fights!

Here's some weird alien-looking plant on the sand dunes at Bude.

Sorry, I'm a novice surviving on happy accidents. I've lost my documentation of the settings.

I agree--great comments! Checking the EXIF, I find:

cannot find ISO speed

I can't tell you how much I look forward to your postings. They always incorporate both spectacular settings and interesting fascinating lighting effects. Did you use the ND to underexpose for the clouds? And I have to ask--was this hand-held at 1/25s?

Here's mine for today. Early morning in May--Charles River:

Still trying to figure out aperture settings and how to work them to my advantage. I have a couple more I'll try and post in the next couple days. C&C appreciated!

Tamron 17-50 f2.8
This one's shot at 50mm f3.2 ISO400, I believe, but I'll be honest, ISO was set to auto  Still learning!

PS. There's no post-processing on any of these so far. I need to figure out how to really use the camera first, I think!

Hey, thanks. And I can't tell you how much encouragement I get from comments like yours. :)

Yes, I used the ND grad to even out the lighting between the sky and the land. No, it wasn't handheld; I used a tripod. I'm rarely allowed to use one in archaeological parks, but the Macedonians were very accommodating. An all too rare pleasure these days.

Thanks, guys! As best I can recall, you've nailed the exif settings.

And I can't take full credit for the "happy accident" phrase. That's a Brian Eno term that I've found especially useful in conversation.

Here's another from the same shoot. Same aperture and ISO settings as before.

No heels, but there is a model in the photo. I used to be scared of bees (mother's fault lol), but I got brave with my camera. Kit lens so I had to suck it up and get close!

Seems like if you leave them alone and are not afraid they ignore you, especially with pollen all on them like that.

Busy bees!
There is a print shop like across the parking lot from the studio here so I just
got back from there and snagged a fine art print of this for four bucks. 11x17".
It looks pretty decent. It isn't one of the sharpest from the hike but I loved
the orangey lighting.

Hey Pup

Camera: Canon EOS 1000D
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/3.5
Focal Length: 18 mm
ISO Speed: 800

Bought a fish eye adaptor today, tried to make my 3rd planet panorama using it, but everything froze and the screen started violently flickering. The hard drive became corrupted as a result, I swear my MBP is cursed.

Fujiko7, I do not think the one duck had been in a fight, I think it was molting. Although I could be wrong.

Mine for today...

EXIF Summary: 1/640s f/8.0 ISO200 18mm (35mm eq:27mm)

For a day that started out so crappy, it turned out to be a gorgeous day. It was raining from when I got up at 7AM and rained until about 1PM. I did not even contemplate taking the camera out of the car until about 2. I was thinking how cool it would have been if I would have gotten a weather sealed Pentax, but I still love the D90. Then the clouds cleared off and I got the duck pictures and this one showing how nice it was... Everyone else went swimming and got badly sunburned, I was too busy taking pictures to go swimming, so I did not get burned, go figure.
