Epic! Explanation / settings / technique please!
For this shot, I used a Canon 430 EX flash, with off-camera cord. In manual mode, the flash was set to, I THINK, 1/16th or 1/8th power. It was in a Lasolite speed-lite softbox held to camera left by my lovely fiance. I used Topaz Adjust ver. 4 for CS5. And then brought it back into Aperture and used the vignette adjustment there. Also, I just got lucky and caught the dog looking at me with a great expression. It never fails, when you have a camera, the dog will never pay attention to you.
...And the one thing you didn't mention: you got down to 'dog level'. Too many people seem to take every shot from five to six feet above the ground...
^^ We were there ten years ago. The place is truly amazing. Is this shot from a helicopter? It looks like the falls and landing pad from the opening of the original Jurassic Park. That falls is on private land, if I remember right. Looking forward to more of this trip.Rainbow in the Falls

^^ Nice use of color and line. I like the way the sky cooperated and gave you nice random puffy clouds.
^^Welcome. Nice to see that we are adding another woman to the roster. Very nice capture of expression. The background is a bit bright and detracts a bit from the photo. That's hard to manage without losing the detail in the face for a portrait. Maybe if you cropped a bit off from the top it would improve it. Overall, a nice first post. After months of lurking, I finally decided to take a risk and post for the first time.
If I were queen I'd re-educate myself to be a photographer, but for now with a day-job and 3 boys, I'll settle for a nice hobby for which I do not have enough time.
I like taking portraits. So introducing my youngest son. Photo taken last Feb in a cafe in Costa Rica.
