NeGRit0: I like the shot. I have a friend like that, well with BMX instead, when we were in HS he was sponsored, and toured nationally... he is like Tony Hawk, ageless... he is still incredible on a BMX bike. Possibly a circular polarizer to help the sky? I do not know for sure, I am still researching and reading about filters...

Mine for today...

Backyard fireworks from the Fourth of July.

Enjoying the Weather

We have been enjoying unseasonably high temperatures in southern Ontario of low to mid 30C (about 93F or 111F with humidity). I love the uncertainty and elation you can read into our 4 year old's expression.

Epic! Explanation / settings / technique please!

Camera Panasonic DMC-GF1
Exposure 0.02 sec (1/50)
Aperture f/6.3
Focal Length 20 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash On, Fired

For this shot, I used a Canon 430 EX flash, with off-camera cord. In manual mode, the flash was set to, I THINK, 1/16th or 1/8th power. It was in a Lasolite speed-lite softbox held to camera left by my lovely fiance. I used Topaz Adjust ver. 4 for CS5. And then brought it back into Aperture and used the vignette adjustment there. Also, I just got lucky and caught the dog looking at me with a great expression. It never fails, when you have a camera, the dog will never pay attention to you.

...And the one thing you didn't mention: you got down to 'dog level'. Too many people seem to take every shot from five to six feet above the ground...

The 18th fairway and clubhouse of Royal Troon Golf Club. It was taken a few days ago by myself............

Very true, same with children. When you're on their level, the picture just speaks to you. I had my camera right on the floor in that picture.

@davegregory that shot of your dog is amazing! amazing! wow. thanks!

here is my shot of a convenience store:

^^ We were there ten years ago. The place is truly amazing. Is this shot from a helicopter? It looks like the falls and landing pad from the opening of the original Jurassic Park. That falls is on private land, if I remember right. Looking forward to more of this trip.

^^ Nice use of color and line. I like the way the sky cooperated and gave you nice random puffy clouds.

Introduction

After months of lurking, I finally decided to take a risk and post for the first time.

If I were queen I'd re-educate myself to be a photographer, but for now with a day-job and 3 boys, I'll settle for a nice hobby for which I do not have enough time.

I like taking portraits. So introducing my youngest son. Photo taken last Feb in a cafe in Costa Rica. And as for any newbie any C&C is appreciated.

^^Welcome. Nice to see that we are adding another woman to the roster. Very nice capture of expression. The background is a bit bright and detracts a bit from the photo. That's hard to manage without losing the detail in the face for a portrait. Maybe if you cropped a bit off from the top it would improve it. Overall, a nice first post.

Kauai was the most beautiful place I've ever visited. This shot is actually just from the lookout using a fisheye lens I rented for the trip. I was really impressed with it's sharpness and contrast overall. This is Wailua Falls, not the Jurassic Park waterfall. I did take a helicopter ride on a different day and saw the waterfall you mentioned. I was REALLY excited because Jurassic Park is my #2 favorite movie of all time.

Or perhaps a little vignette as that would tone it down some with out upsetting the balance, or create odd dimensions....

/thinking out loud.
