I know what it's like to lose a contact lens on the beach...

Absolute cracker of a response Doylem! Thanks for the guffaws of laughter this morning. :D

I was just set with my focus for this shot and the sun broke through the clouds for a split second giving this amazing backlit glow to the cactus. Glad I got it snapped!

First of all, thanks to everyone who sent me well wishes a little over a month ago, I really apreciate it. I'm doing much better, and have been back to work for a couple weeks, but I'm gonna have to get a job that is a little more gentle on my back.

The 2-1/2 weeks at my parents cabin was nice and helped a lot. I made a few nice photo's while up there, but I mostly just sat on the deck with a drink in one hand and my camera in the other with the 300/4 mounted trying to get an in-flight shot of the Swallows. Either 2-1/2 weeks wasn't enough time, I don't have the right gear, or it's impossible!

After the emergency vacation I spent a week catching up on all the life that went by while I was disconnected from the world. The next week the lovely woman pictured here joined me in the truck for a week, that was by far the best week I've had on the road.

This was a quick shot made from inside the truck, we were laying in bed looking out the side hatch and I liked the light so I grabbed my camera. It was made with the Canon T3i body, 40mm STM lens @f/3.5, ISO 1600 and 1/100th from about 1.5ft away.

Up Vote Counter Broken?

Is it just me or has anyone else notice that clicking the up vote arrow isn't limited to one time? If I return sometime later on, maybe a day, I can up vote a response that I had previously up voted.

It's an optical illusion. It goes back to what it should be when you leave or refresh the page.

Bring back the down vote I say! :p

If the down vote was brought back, I'd like it separated from the up counter. It would be more interesting to compare +1 vs -1 votes than just the total.

Here's the Grand Hotel and gardens on Mackinac Island. You can just barely see the Mackinac Bridge in the background, too (if you view the image in much larger size than available here).

Happy 4th of July (Independence Day) here in the US. Here's a gratuitous fireworks photo taken last night at our town's fireworks event.

Got my Canon 50mm f/1.8 today, this is one of my first shots taken with it and I'm very pleased.
It's clear enough to see me knelt down taking the photo in the reflection in my dog's eye. Not bad for £70!

This is Meg, my 14 year old Labrador.

I love this composition !

Thanks Robert, I'm trying to be mindful of composition before I press the shutter button these days. When I looked at that palm frond, I started scanning it for points of interest, admiring its overall form, and then the picture above is what leapt out at me! Instead of taking hundreds of pictures on any outing, I might return with 50-60 more thought out ones now and my rate of keepers is going up as a result.

I would have sworn those rocks were whales of some type! :)

------------------------------------------------

Same palm tree, different frond. I don't rate this picture as a keeper, however, I love the completely different appearance due to the differing viewpoint and dappled light condition.

Forgot to post on July 4. All the fireworks displays around me were cancelled due to rain, so I didn't have a chance to take any pictures of them last night. So here's a musket firing demonstration. Yes, he's dressed as a Brit, since Fort Michilimackinac (originally French) was occupied by the British from 1761 until 1781 when they moved it to Mackinac Island.
