I like this one. My only gripe (and it is a very small one) is that the jar in the bottom left is slightly distracting to me. Other than that, its simplicity and use of DOF really appeals to me.

I have the same problem, really. I should have moved it before I took the shot. Oh well, I'll just remember that for next time.

Great to see people using the extension :)
To anyone using the AutoTIMG Safari extension version 1.0, I'd encourage you to upgrade to version 1.1, it does away with the button and TIMGs automatically on the reply page.

Sunset on English Bay... and the Kitsilano Yacht Club Jetty... this is shot from the Boathouse Restaurant on Kitts beach with my 70-300 L at 300mm... and I didn't notice at the time, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a Heron under the dock in this pic. :)

Very nice VirtualRain, the silhouette and lighting make for a nice ambience.

Thanks for the input. I will take light more into consideration next time. :) I am pondering whether I should sign up for some photography classes, but I don't really want to spend that kind of money... is there a book that is worth a couple classes worth of info and help for those willing to read and learn?

Yes, I can recommend a couple of good books to read: The Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman, and Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson. You can learn a lot by reading books and posting your photos online for feedback.

This is a storm in the distance.

I like the theme of the approaching storm, so I dug up one of my own.

I've had this spot on my "to-do" list for a while. Last night I had the chance to stop for a shot, and I arrived at just the right time.

It looks like a large, peaceful field out in the country somewhere. However, it is surrounded by subdivisions along a pretty busy street. There's a "No Dumping No Trespassing" sign next to this gate. Parked to my left is construction equipment for the road widening and sidewalk rebuild all in front of this field. There is a nice county park (where I parked my car) about 1/4 of a mile down the street from this spot, so it isn't all bad.

Thanks Reef!... I haven't had a chance to try your plugin yet, but will soon. It's just bizarre to me that this behavior is not hard coded into the forums!

Here's another from the same day... how can you tell this is in Canada? :p

Did an evening walk to watch the lunar eclipse. Turned out to be to cloudy,
however the beginning of the evening had some nice light.

Really love this. It's captured the golden hour completely for me. Plus the perfect placement of the heron whack bang in the middle in the space under the dock!

Great exposure, looks almost un-natural to me! Lucky to be near such a nice location just at the turning point for the weather.

Again a perfect golden exposure. I love the silhouettes on the water. Hope you have some more from this collection to share.

Early morning light on Oats Royd Mill in the Luddenden Valley, Yorkshire...

Really nice exposure on this one. Love the vibrant greens. Doylem I was wondering, what's the widest lens you take for this sorts of pictures and do you do much in post?

Thanks!

Just got my shiny new digi cam just this week after 3 years of dabbling with film. This was taken round my friends house and I was just marvelling at the low light capabilities!
