Nice shot, what lens did you use for this? Amazing detail over the wings.

Reviewing my images, I think I'm a B&W person. I don't really use color to the best effect and what catches my eye seems to be things rendered best in B&W. Not saying I'm great at B&W either, but it's where I'm gravitating these days. Been reviewing some of my old captures and looking at them in B&W. This is a cruise pic from 2010 converted to B&W. Passed over it initially, but liking it more now.
I used the Canon 70-200mm IS f/2.8 lens (not the II). It was just the right lens for this event since 200mm was just the right amount of zoom when the planes were at their closest. Actually, I had to back off a bit sometimes for the group shots to get them all in the frame.
Here's another group action shot as they were peeling away one by one. I like how I got one that had already left formation in the background just as the next one started to do the same.

I like this as well, but my favorite is still the single jet shot. Thanks for the lens info, I picked up a Canon EF 70-300mm DO, but am unimpressed with the focus I've been getting out of it. May be mostly me though, I'm still getting used to it.
Lovely shot - well framed and all of them captured in crisp detail.
I want to take my D800e out to an airshow when it is back from repairs, but all the airshows around here are about as interesting as watching grass grow.
This one here shows a lot of use of the shadows/highlight tool from the look of it, and that detracts from the shot a bit for me. It's a fine shot otherwise. Just my humble opinion though.
I hope you like the one I share here, then. This time you see the plane from underneath.

There wasn't much histogram range from the camera, so I did have to work with the levels to get it to look right. I brought up the shadows some, but not a huge amount, so you could see some detail that was there.
