That's a sweet photo! How do you get that effect where you see the clouds going off into the distance but somehow its perfectly centered. Is that just the effect from a wide angle lens or something?

Thanks.

It was just a very good cloud formation, taken at 11mm.

Love hawks/eagles. I really wanna get into those types of photography.

Just returned from SXSW earlier this week. What an awesome festival, though there were waaaay too many people for the city's infrastructure/number of venues/anything. Still, can't say no to four days of non-stop insanity.

I managed to see one of my favourite bands, The Biters. What do you think of the B&W conversion? I was trying to very much go for a '70s rock and roll shot.

Another killer image dude!

I'm confused, but it's late so forgive me, but looking at the EXIF, it says...

Exposure: Manual exposure, 4 sec, f/8, ISO 100, Compensation: -5
Date: March 23, 2011 7:04:29PM

Exp. compensation of -5 with 4 sec @ f8? It doesn't seem to make sense just before or after sunset (depending on whether your camera clock is set for DST). What am I missing?

Thanks! It was a huge mistake on my part! I was playing around with the exposure comp. earlier in the day and forgot to change it back. Basically every photo I took after this has the same error. :( Silly mistake... and I think the worst part about it is I didn't even notice.

So you accidentally shot this with exposure compensation at -5? The EXIF is correct? I'm still confused. 4s @ f8 makes sense for that scene... but not if that's EV -5 which means for EV 0, the shutter speed would have to be about 1 minute. That would way overexpose that scene.

Yeah the EXIF should be correct. I don't see why it wouldn't be? It's not all that dark at 7:00 anymore. Unless there is another reason this could happen?

Purple prettiness...

Maybe I'm spending too much time at church lately... Anyway, I had a meeting last night and arrived early enough to take another wide shot of one of the mansion rooms. The painted mural along the top is a panorama view of Stone Mountain near Atlanta. For that reason we call it the Stone Mountain Room. We use it for choir rehearsal. The choir director helped me move the metal folding chairs out of the way for the picture. I didn't think they would look very good compared to the rest of the room.

Nice emotive capture, but you need to use a deeper DOF. Those catch lights in the pups eyes have to be sparkly. Is this a pet photo or are you adding pet portraits to your bag of tricks?

Really nice warm colors and tons of detail here. The sign on the right wall is out of place, though. I would have cropped it out.

That's a beautiful room!

I thought about removing the sign, but it is actually photography related with what it says. :) I could also clone it out since the pattern in the wood below it is the same as where the sign is. I think I'm going to leave it for now.

I have other HDR photos of church to reprocess with Photomatix and some new ones yet to take. The Great Hall posted earlier this week is too big for a single shot, so I'll take a new perspective sometime later. There are at least two more rooms to get shots of plus I don't have a good one of the sanctuary itself.

Nowhere near the quality of some of the stuff I've seen in this thread, but I do like this pic I took of one of my guitars (a Martin 000-18GE).

Agreed. Getting the hang of that prime. I'm amazed at what you can do with a prime though. I don't know about pet portraits ahaha. I would be down if people wanted them. Thats just mah puppy right there : ) . Her name is Bean. I'll post a better one after midnight tonight : )

Maybe... I think its from where that restaurant is that caught on fire a while ago. Close to SFU. I took firework photos from there before. Nice vantage point.

Anyways, here's my photo. It's ok I guess...

Nice! I'd like to do some shooting along the Fraser River sometime.

Nice! Burnaby Mountain? Did they rebuild the restaurant yet?

I've been guessing Capital Hill.

Sorry, I somehow missed this... That recent set of downtown with the sunset was indeed taken from Capitol Hill. I've taken similar shots from both Boundary Rd. and Horizons on Burnaby Mtn and they all provide good views. You just need a longer lens with each one as you go further East. :)
