Thanks for keeping us in the loop Peter, gorgeous to see, the resident Ornithologist in training here will be pleased to see this.

You're quite welcome John and hopefully more shots to come for your resident Ornithologist in training.

First and foremost; great capture, great photograph - congratulations. Second, and on a more personal level - I am insanely jealous! I live in the woods, and have both Great Horned and Western Screech owls close by the house. Many is the evening that we sit outside and listen to one or the other - and sometimes both. But after almost 20 years of living here, I have yet to spot one in a circumstance where I can photograph them. I've searched for scat to try and detect their nesting places, but to no avail. When I see them, it's always in low light, usually in motion, and never in a spot where I can get a lens on them.

Salute to not only your photo, but your woodsman skills as well!

Many thanks AxisOfBeagles but I have to say that I'm the jealous one. I would love to live in a spot where I could sit outside in the evening and listen to the call of owls instead of sirens and car alarms...even without the pics.

But seriously, it's about a little bit of persistence, a little bit of patience and a whole lot of luck.

Peter

I usually don't like taking or posting photos of myself, but I had to mark the occasion as I had just got my new (and very first) pair of glasses; as it turns out, my eyes are much worse than I had realized!

I also have iPhoto for the iPad,
PS Touch is just for that little extra but I find iPhoto very good

At the entry to Himeji Garden, South Australia. One would have traditionally washed their hands here before entering, helping leave the everyday world behind.

Happy Mother's Day to all. This is a special day celebrated in the US, but it should be extended to all mothers around the world. Mom, I miss you terribly, but you are always with me in my heart.

sunny 16 daffodils

Not far from here is a fun place to play with the camera when the daffodils come out. A few weeks back I did just that on a bright sunny spring day. This shot was taken with no regard to metering - just the old "sunny 16 rule of thumb".

Great Horned Owlet...feathers are replacing down and and short flights are replacing branch hopping. All VERY COOL to see. :)

I'm sure his mother is very proud.

An interesting view of the castle, especially because I don't recognize the flag that it's flying. Usually the castle is surmounted by the flag of Ljubljana, but this appears to be something else.

So much character in these two bird portraits!

Definitely an architecture scene where converging verticals are not a problem! Good balance of light here.

Adorable. He looks so soft and fluffy. Nice timing with the outstretched wings too.
