C'mon, Phil... at that age everything's point 'n' shoot...

I maybe chuckled a little with the first comment, but this one caught me by surprise. I had a mouthful of kung pao chicken and, now I have chile peppers in my nose.

Tea... coffee... kung pao chicken... result... ;)

Black Middens Bastle House, a fortified farmhouse in the Scottish Borders, dating from the era of cross-border raids during the 16th century. When trouble threatened, the animals would be corralled downstairs, people upstairs...

This is just stunning (and I don't even like insect photos). The colours are fantastic: blues, greens, purples, and the 'metallic' green on the insect. Everything seems to work towards the composition, and nothing distracts from the overall effect. Everything that needs to be in focus is sharp; everything else is beautifully 'suggested'. A winner, IMO... though I might be tempted to trim a little from the left side...

Fantastic color palette! Doylem said it all. :) What lighting setup did you use?

Thanks guys. No special lighting. Just natural light, 100mm macro and a tripod. I've actually always wished that it had just a bit more depth of field.

For today, St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney.

The clouds add some very nice textural contrast here. They also gave you a nice, diffused light that really brings out the details of Big Ben. However, your composition could be better. It's very centered, with the clock face pretty much in the middle of the frame, amounting to a rather static composition. Also, you have embedded a 20% dot gain profile instead of sRGB (which is best for web viewing), and that is making the image look a bit underexposed in my browser.

This is the cool stuff I want to see as a photographer! Well as much as the final photo too! Did you build that yourself or buy it somewhere? I remember seeing a place to buy from online but they are insanely expensive.

Thanks! I built it myself, just by learning from the diy rigs you would find on the internet. Cost about $200 but you are right, that's so much better than the rigs sold for $700. That company is extremely overpriced

Just so you know, my girlfriend saw the picture and thought it was very cute. :)

Haha! Thanks! But it got much worse from there. She & her brother painted the rest of her entirely red with blue arms. Very scary, just like Doylem said!

I liked the pic your girlfriend took of you. Very much like your Dexter avatar!
