This one taken in Naples near the one from yesterday. Across from the archeology museum. The arches from the pic from yesterday opened into a lovely interior space on the left. Beautiful inside. Unfortunately it reeked of urine.

I like the lonely pigeon in the frame. Unfortunately, Naples is not one of Italy's finest cities and has been for some time. When I was in the Navy in the mid-70s it was one of the tours of duty that you made sure you avoided. My father's family immigrated from near there in the 1920s. Fortunately, they were from the Amalfi coast area and east of Naples. Much, much nicer environment!

Nicely done!

What lens was this shot with?

Thanks. It's the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 without stabilisation. They go for about $350 Australian, new, as a grey import. Optically it's as good as the Canon 100mm.

Wow that is pin sharp. Great shot!

Thanks, it was a bit of a bugger to capture handheld. I had to hold the branch of lavender it was on still as it was pretty windy at the time. Then I had to choose to focus on the eye or the digestive juice, I went for the droplet, so it had the leaves in the background reflected within it sharply. I was surprised I got it off cleanly, with the subtlest movement taking the focus on and off target so easily.

Captured this handheld yesterday in the front yard. I have never seen a fly preparing its digestive juices before. Still no flash usage from me, so kept it at f/8 for this one.

Nicely done and well captured John. Great colour, very sharp and the depth looks really good even at f/8. A keeper for sure - the shot, not the fly.

Handheld? Now your just bragging! I'm trying to decide on a macro lens or just stick with what I have and a cheap set of extension rings. I borrowed some the other day, and they transformed my lense macro capability. I think I need a telephoto first though.

I don't like this shot. It reminds me of beer. I'm currently off beer as I need to lose a few pounds.

I miss beer!

Thanks. The pigeon kind of made this one for me. Tiny element in the photo, but I think it really helped the image.

This one is also from Naples. Stepping through the arch in the background from yesterday's post I looked right and was confronted with this:

Wow, New York has really let itself go! ;)
[/Joke]

I laughed at this. Was thinking when I posted this image that I could find something similar in NYC. But...

Not sure how to put this in words. The pic for tomorrow may express it better. Naples was creepy. I've been to seedy places in the US--a trip to a bad part of the Bronx during college comes to mind. My wife lived in NYC for several years and was a social worker during that time (with stories from Riker's Island including interactions with serial killers). Even she was uncomfortable in Naples.

The Italy trip was amazing. Glad we put Naples at the end as it made coming home easier. Loved the archeology museum in Naples. Loved Pompeii. Can't recommend a trip to Italy focused on Naples to even my worst enemy though.

I'm glad you have a sense of humour and weren't offended. I loved your comments above. You're not the only one to mention this about Naples in recent times and the TV series of the Borgias hasn't helped it's imagery either! I didn't realise it had such a chequered history prior to that.

I am really enjoying your pictorial sharing with us here, there is some exquisite architecture, which I'm glad you braved getting to and came out unscathed.

I'll apologise upfront for the softness and distance to this one, I forgot with this 30 year old 400mm lens to stop down to f/8-11 for the best clarity and hurriedly snapped this Scarlet Parrot, which we don't ordinarily get here in the park next door late this afternoon just prior to sunset.

I had just arrived home from the mother-in-laws place where some parrots have taken residence in a bird box we put in a gum tree and had the camera and lens with me, assembled it, popped it onto the monopod, snapped this shot, moved further to the right to get a better shot and got swooped from behind by a rogue nesting magpie, which startled the scarlets away. :(

Ha, thought that was a macro shot at first of a piece of rock. Had to adjust my thinking!

Time for a quick gas up and then off again. I count about 112.
