Cooper's Hawk at Hines Park in Wayne County, Michigan:View attachment 2544345
Perhaps the flickers have a nest or fledglings nearby. I’ve seen it often enough in my backyard where when a hawk shows up, all the other birds will pester the hawk and make such a racket that it essentially spoils the hunt. Eventually the hawk must move on, and the other birds will pursue for a while. Seems pretty effective.Had some interesting behavior with a Cooper's Hawk at our house two days ago. On the wire out front, there were two Northern Flickers and a Cooper’s Hawk very near each other. The hawk would occasionally fly around and chase the flickers, but they’d all settle back down in the same place. Then the hawk flew over to the top of a tall tree across the street and the flickers followed it, flying over to the same tree, near it.

Here’s another good friend of mine. He’s smaller than he looks, maybe the size of a chihuahua. He’s a wild fox, but he has been visiting me for 5 years.
