They sure express a lot of grey for V. vulpes!
There are some silver foxes here too and they mix.

In winter, when they get more fur, the small fox in the photo is more red. In summer, you can see the black more. I was surprised that the pup was so black until I saw the mother's black fur underneath in summer.

This reminds me of something I saw in the mountains of BC. I was running through the woods like a madman (“commando” exercise), making lots of noise - when I suddenly stopped and found myself surrounded by deer. One was lying down just like in your picture. They weren’t scared at all. I carefully sat down as one of the group. I was with them for half an hour before they slowly moved on. I don’t understand what happened that day.

I assume it’s in a secure location. If that was in a public area, I’m sure it would get vandalized.
