I'm sure they'll start adding it, they'd be stupid not to. It's probably just a feeler. Like when iMovie only came on the iMacs at first, then they added it to all Macs. I guess they could add it to the iSight as a software bundle, but not all of us have them or would buy them. I have a fw camera that works fine. You'd probably need an IR port for the remote, but that is sold separately already for the iPod dock.

I really don't see this being a part of iLife. It's better bundled with iSight purchases or new Macs that come with built-in cameras.

itunes lets you create playlists ;)

and i dont see whats so great about photobooth. its just a little app to promote the cam in the monitor.

Gasp. Blasphemy! :p Did you watch the keynote? I thought it sounded pretty lame, too but Steve Jobs makes it look like so much fun. And I read a post somewhere here on MR and it made sense to me-- w/ Photobooth's built-in timed picture-taker you could take family photos.

I don't really care either way if it only comes w/ an iSight or w/ iLife '06. Think I'd get both-- I've been waiting for a good excuse to get an iSight.

*cough*iPhoto*cough*

Well I'd have to disagree there. iPhoto is an organization tool for all your digital images that lets you create slideshows or webpages. Granted it's not the best app in the world, but it does the trick for most folks. Honestly, what does PhotoBooth really do outside of messing around with a pic in a limited fashion?

I'll concede that iTunes is not necessarily a content creation tool, but my general view on PhotoBooth still stands. It's a gimmicky tool with no real purpose or major appeal outside of the "teen" crowd. I really don't see how this would add any value to iLife '06. In fact, Apple's gonna have to come up with something good this time around for me to cough up the cash for it again. Maybe some Aperture features may work it's way into iPhoto or something. I'd like to see that for one.

From what I've seen of Photobooth, I could care less if it comes out for the rest of the lineups. I think middle school aged kids will have a blast with it, but if someone over the age of 18 is really going to find it useful or entertaining then I imagine they find watching grass grow very enjoyable too.

I would really love to see Front Row come out. Especially after I buy a 23" display with my new Dual 2.0GHz G5 that just came out.

For whatever reason, Apple is only offering PhotoBooth pre-installed on new iMacs, and has not yet released the software publicly.

Yeah, for "whatever reason." Is that MacSpeak for marketing? Apple wants to sell computers. Offering PhotoBooth a la carte right now would be a disincentive to buy an iMac (especially since this is probably the very last PPC iMac). If Apple is going to have a blowout quarter it needs to max out sales of iPods AND iMacs.

I can vouche for this. I've been using Photobooth on my girlfriend's ultimate 15inch powerbook (my iBook G4 doesn't support Core Image  ) It's a pretty fun application. I would consider paying for it if there were more photo effects to choose from.

I went into the Apple Store at Eastview today to get my powerbook's lazy pixels checked out, and although they didn't fix my problem (they couldn't be seen under fluorescent lighting), the Genius said something to the effect of "There's a petition online with a couple thousand signatures for both Front Row and PhotoBooth, it won't be long until they're released for everybody..."

Oh, no real argument here. :) It is a gimmick. Including FrontRow in some capacity with iLife makes more sense to me, since iLife is supposed to be about the digital lifestyle (ugh, please smack me for using that term). Part of that is content creation (iMovie, GarageBand, etc...) and grouping (hence iPhoto and iTunes), and part of that is presentation of said digital content (burning CDs, transferring items to iPod, photo books, burning DVDs, etc...), and FrontRow really goes a long way in terms of presenting that content. Perhaps Front Row will be included at an extra cost, since I wouldn't want to buy iLife 06 while paying for a remote, if I already received a remote with my iMac.

You raise a good point, but I think that the remote will continue to be sold separately. You'd want the Front Row software to be included and updated with every revision of iLife, but you wouldn't want to have to buy a new remote: Hence, Front Row is included, but not the remote.

Wouldn't RAW support in iPhoto be Aperture Express? I'm sure it's in the works.

I think PhotoBooth is the perfect compliment to a house party. Just imagine all the drunken fun! That being said, I'm going to attempt to find it before 6 tomorrow night.

They need to release iLife '06 soon.

they release alot of software a couple months before the year in title. same with cars.

but this one ought to be with both new apps

No it shouldn't. :p iLife 06 will be out in 2006. Released at MWSF 2006 to be exact.

Now, what would be nice is if they released Front Row to the public, and then you could use your iPod as a remote, in all its scrollwheeled glory.... :)

I would love to have PhotoBooth on my Macs. I agree with you about not using it much, but it would definitely be a fun little app to play around with when you have company over, especially around the holidays. And who's to say only adults use Macs? Kids love these kinds of apps. Heck, I would like it too. Including it in iLife '06 would be neat. I would also like Front Row, but I don't see that being included.

Hopefully it will become available soon. Realistically I bet they'll include it as one of the upgrades in iLife 06, or something.

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if this were an iMac-exclusive for 2005 and the rest of us get it as part of iLife '06 next year.

I want PhotoBooth available for everyone who buys or has bought a iSight.
I'm sure it will be packaged with them in the future. Or maybe we have a revision coming.... Steve did say the camera in the iMacs is better than the current iSights.

Front Row, PhotoBooth and more will make iLife more sought after than ever.

While both are nice little apps, they're hardly killer iLife sellers.

I guess this isn't original now, but how about updating iPhoto to incorporate some of the aspects of Aperture. Photochop has the CS version. Why not iPhoto?
