I guess this isn't original now, but how about updating iPhoto to incorporate some of the aspects of Aperture. Photochop has the CS version. Why not iPhoto?

Yes, this has been discussed many times already in the appropriate thread. I think it would be excellent, especially the high res photo books.

I'm sure it will be packaged with them in the future. Or maybe we have a revision coming.... Steve did say the camera in the iMacs is better than the current iSights.
But for all of those people out there with current iSights, they deserve that program also.

I think photobooth should come with all iSights and anyone who already bought an iShight should be able to download it. But better yet it should just be free to anyone.

As for Front Row that should definitely come with iLife '06 it just makes sense, it ties the whole iLife together. All of the things you view in Front Row come from iLife apps. I would bet anything Front Row is comming in the next iLife and you can buy the remote for an extra fee.

Photobooth is in the wild. Works with iSights and Firewire cams. Works with all modern Macs from accounts. I dont know why Apple dont just release it. It should at least be a freebie for .Mac owners.

I'd say it'll be a free download very soon -with a Intel ready version 2.0/3.0 coming in the future. Could be part of Leopard.

It looks like such a cool app, and since its firewire based it promotes isight sales, so I can easily see it being released soon - at the latest with iLife 06 in 2 months.

The more I think about it the more I think they need to make this a freeby right now for .Mac owners.

I heard there was a petition as well to get it released to Mac users ;)

Not to offend, but this is not the place to be discussing where to obtain this...If you dont know then look harder...
Anyway, anyone tried it with frontrow yet?

From what I understand, Front Row is not an app. It's probably hidden away somewhere and is running all the time. It requires an IR receiver to work, and contrary to what people thought about it being in the iSight, it's actually behind the Apple logo on the front. I don't think it's as easily stealable as say PhotoBooth.

Yes, I signed the petition. Now to see is Apple listens.

I think you are on to something with .Mac owners.

The new iMac is shipping with a better camera than iSight - chances are a new, better - and hopefully cheaper - one will will come out in the near future.

Now, with this little camera sitting on top of your mac, I think a new form factor would leave room for an IR receiver. They've squeezed it into the top of an iMac - new components must be smaller so I figure they could put the sensor in. Then, with that, you could use the remote to control Front Row in iLife 06.

By that time I hope it won't just stream movie trailers but it'll let you buy movies. Front Row is the perfect vessel to sell movies through since it's already there, ready for you to control just as you would a DVD. That could be used as the argument against letting you burn a movie you buy to disk, just as you can't burn music videos.

Or something like that.

My point is, Photo Booth will ship with the new iSight. Most other webcams give you some free software with them, not just drivers.

Now sure this is what steve said, but come on, do you really believe that?

With the isight permanently installed you can no longer

aim where you want
use apps like iglasses to greatly improve dark or low light situations.

And those are just a couple of reasons. Photo Booth should be released to the masses. At least thru .Mac which has previously been mentioned.

make photobooth downloadable

i'm really waiting for this. i own the isight. i've a .mac account. it's a shame. so come on! ;-)

Bingo, thats of course what they will do. Nexr iSight comes with an IR receiver, and is packed with Frontrow and Photobooth :) Hopefully for the same price as the current model iSight.

That would definitely be a good solution - especially at the current iSight price.

I played around with Photo Booth today on my PowerBook and definitely had some fun. :D

Do you see it as being something you would use often though? That seems to be a complaint others have with the app, is that the novelty would wear off fast and it would become rather useless over time. Just curious to hear a user's perspective. :)

Yeah, the novelty could wear off real fast but then there are times it'll be really useful. For instance, those companies that offer discount with a valid student union card or require some other form of ID. Just hold your card up to the camera and go straight to mail. No mucking around with scanners etc.

Useful for mooning, too! :D

I want PhotoBooth available for everyone who buys or has bought a iSight.

I've said this before and been ignored and smart-arsed but in all repects iSight *the product* now has additional software and therefore all iSight owners should be entitled to a copy. Especially when you consider that you get very little useful with your iSight, that you need to spend another $20 at least for iGlasses to make the thing work properly, that you then need another $50 for EvoCam to allow the camera to do webcam functions that Apple couldn't get round to adding (too busy on the iPod nonsesnse), how ridiculous it is that USB cams "strangely" don't work with Macs and the only viable Hobson's Choice is the Apple product...

Grrrrrrr.

Yeah it definitely wears off. I think of it as the EyeToy for the Mac. :p I still think it's a very cool app though, and definitely something I didn't really expect to come from Apple. When I think of Apple's software, productivity apps instantly jump to mind, like Final Cut Pro. I would love to see more "fun" apps like Photo Booth from Apple in the future.

I'll probably play with it again tomorrow. :p

Front Row all the way

*patiently awaiting similar news for Front Row*

Hear hear! Front Row is the killer application of the last 3 Apple media events. Oh I'm sure some people will be giddy over PhotoBooth and some professional photographers will really enjoy Aperture, but Front Row puts the Mac into the living room. If only it had PVR capabilities (perhaps hooks into iMovie), but maybe that's coming in iLife 06. *crosses fingers*

Yeah, Photobooth will be short lived.

Front Row will change everything. This could truly sell as much as the ipod if not more. I know most people on here aren't that old but I'm in my late 20's. I already have nieces, newphews, parents, grand parents, and siblings that live far away. I have this in plan:

1. Set each one up with a mac mini. This will replace the DVD player and also, in most cases, the stereo.

2. Each one gets an isight as well for doing video conferencing.

With this setup, each has the DVD player, the CD player (or just keep all in itunes), video conferencing, and a computer for parents/grandparents to use on a big screen for their poor eyes. All anyone has to do is have the main tv remote, and when they want music, dvd's, computer, all they have to do is hit the tv/video button on the remote and they're in.

As for the PVR. Seems Comcast/Direct TV etc. have this done already. No need to put it in this box as well.

I hope Apple has this in plan for the mac mini. such and easy setup and great tool.
