Erik,

I'm more or less with you on the aesthetics. Although I don't use my Quicksilver as much as you do, it still remains my main PPC Mac.

Unlike you, my main one is running a factory processor.

That aside, my dual 1.42 MDD can pretty much match blow-for-blow with the Giga at 1.6 and is faster than the 1.8 Sonnet at some tasks. The Quicksilver is always going to be held back by it's 133mhz bus, whereas the higher end MDDs can not only take more RAM but are faster. Truthfully, if I'm going to keep using a G4 in this sort of work, it's hard to make an argument for NOT using the MDD, except that I just like the Quicksilver better!

For that matter, if I could ever get the SCSI situation sorted out on my dual 2.7, there really IS not an argument against using it for the tasks the Quicksilver now does...
I hear you Ben.

There is some stuff both you and I do that is quite alike, but some stuff very different. And I do realize that an MDD will be faster where it concerns Photoshop and Illustrator, but while I use those apps they are only in support of my main use of InDesign.

My QS supports InDesign very well so I'll stick with it. An MDD would have to show a significant improvement over using ID for me to switch to it. Something to test whenever I do get an MDD.

In any case, there are two or three desktop Macs on my list for specific purposes, the MDD being one of those. I do tend to collect Macs (but of course, not to your degree) but I try to apply them to a specific task (if for no more reason than to justify their purchase to my wife). The MDD I intend to use as more of a graphic machine (PS, Illy) for stuff I do entirely in those apps. I think it will handle it much better and will get that load off my QS.

Just picked up a new 14mm ƒ2.8 lens for my Canon, sounds like I should dig out my iBook for this thread.

Sometimes I look at other PPC Macs, but I don't really have a use for one and know it would just sit and collect dust. But they are beautiful. First ones I used were Indigo slot-load iMac G3's in my elementary school computer lab. Learned MS Office on those along with Netscape navigator and some Bugdom on a good day :). My uncle also had a PM7600, iMac G4, and a PowerBook G4 he used for music production/web development in Nashville. I loved it when I was allowed to use them.

There is at least one Mac that is going to stay with me till it dies or otherwise since it's been in the family since purchase and has held up extremely well. It's not a PPC, but it is the first of the aluminum iMac's (Mid 2007). The thing will be 10 years old next August and it still runs the latest OS X El Capitan, Office 2016, Adobe CC, Logic Pro X, and more just fine. It's used daily by my roommate who uses it for the Adobe suite and music management (he's an aspiring DJ and does some graphic design for his church). I threw in 4GB of RAM plus a 120GB SSD back in 2012 and that helped it out immensely.

Anyway, I may update this post later with some pics when I get around to it

I don't mind the MDD potholes that much, nor the speaker placement. But that mirror finish is sexy, and no, I'm not saying that just because I see myself when I look at the MDD :p

I've never been a fan of the Quicksilver, the MDD is pretty much the same or better in every way (except maybe noise output). The dual 1.42 FireWire 800 configuration is very fast for a G4-based Mac, and the dual 1.25 is the best of the best for Mac OS 9.

The G4 Cube followed by the graphite towers are probably my favorite in terms of design.

Talking about MDDs, I found these pictures online, a modified MDD with a black paint job. That looks really slick, if I can get my hands on another MDD, I might try it! Here's the page it came from, the mod is worth a read because the guy modded in a complete custom watercooling job, quite interesting! There is some painful stuff on that page too, though, some of those mods are just bad. But this one is quite slick, in my opinion.

I think they look great, for me the MDD is the best looking of all the G4's.
I've seen that site before, and I think the ^black and silver^ looks the best too.

Slightly sad that Apple decided of form over function for the vents, and still wondering why no one has ditched the blanking plate.

The G5 puts out more heat than a G4.
Apple could have put a G5 chip (or two) into an updated G4 case, but the cooling was noisy enough in a MDD G4. Can you imagine what the noise would have been like if they'd just gone for the old case re-hash?

"What? No, I couldn't hear the world coming to an end, I have my Mac G5 running!"
Because I don't know the difference between Photoshop and Photogenic (apparently).

('shopped up out of pics I found on the net)
I've got a nick name for ^this^ mac, the "Saturn 5".

Just coz...
OK, it's not so photogenic, but I found my spare G5 motherboard, so I lined it up next to an MDD with the door open (it's my spares one). As you can see, if you wanted to shoehorn a G5 mobo into a G4 case, you need to stretch the case by at least 4 1/2 inches.

Funny enough, every time I see the insides of the new trash can Mac Pro, for whatever reason it reminds me of a Saturn V service module. Esp. the Apollo 13 one with the side panel blown off :)

Still……seems to be missing something.

Didn't Apple have, I don't know, something slightly bigger than the 15"? A 17" Mac laptop maybe?
LOL, I plan to take a picture of all 3 later. I just saw the two of them closed on my desk, so I quickly put them together and took a picture. Now that I have a 15in DLSD, I think my next quest is for a 17in DLSD, then I'd have maxed out PowerBooks across the board!

Not the best editing, but those are a good pair of MBPs.
One, on the left, is the 1,1, running 10.6.8, with 2GB and a 2.0 CD. The one on the right, is a 4,1, with the BTO 2.5 and 4GB. Coupled with a 128GB SSD, it flies.

I really like the 4,1, has a new AM battery, makes a nice machine.

Here some pictures of my "G3-Graphite"-day. All members of the family on vacation and no one complaining about the Macs spread out in the living-room. :)
Ah now I need one of those graphite iBooks. Freaking gorgeous.

alright so ill post a mac :) (not PPC sadly I dont own any gray/black PowerBooks) Decided to take a couple pics of my MacBook in my kitchen (which was recently repainted and retiled and is all white now)

Managed to take these pictures by pushing the MacBook against the wall on the counter top and upping the exposure on my iPad mini camera :) (specs of the MB are 2Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook 2,1 Late 06 4GB RAM)
