I got a 60D with an 18-200mm and a 50mm lens for 1200$ in 2014.
I get that the iPhone is more than just a camera, but lately Apple seems to be trying to sell the idea that the iPhone is capable of replacing professional cameras, which it isn't and never will be.

Knowledgeable people appreciate this fact that a smartphone can never trump a DSLR in terms of photo quality in difficult photography conditions like low light etc. The same way a DSLR can never beat the compactness and versatility of a smartphone like snap and share etc.
The issue is that people with half knowledge and perhaps fanboys insist that smartphones will 'replace' DSLRs or 'take DSLR quality' pictures.
Each devices has it optimum use case scenarios. Its for us to realise what those are.
Cheers !
