The iPod Touch will now be 2 generations behind the iPhone in terms of camera functionality. The least they could've done was make the camera similar to that in the 3GS if they weren't going to add a front facing camera.

I wonder what's Apple's take on all these leaks. Well at least we know that come September, the new touch will have a camera.

I'm not too fussed about it being 2 megapixel, I'd just like a camera on me for when I don't have my SLR. My Motorola Razr's cam doesn't really do anything.

I am having a hard time believing that this is the next generation iPod touch (it looks like the leaked 3G version that we saw last year).

I would expect to see the iPod Touch that is released in September to have some of the design cues from the new iPhone.

That is just my opinion though.

Here's the thing... what's the point in cramming a high-megapixel sensor in such a tiny camera? Sure you get higher-resolution images, but the image quality suffers, as does low-light capability. I feel like between 2 and 3 MP is about right... going up to 5 or higher (the HTC EVO 4G will have an 8 MP camera) is just ridiculous.

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with it being 2 megapixels. I think it's wrong that if Apple goes with the 2 megapixel camera that was in the original iPhone they will likely omit video recording, focus, white balance, Macro focus, tap to focus & exposure.

Photos and Video of iPod Touch With Camera Surface in Vietnam

Vietnamese site Tinhte has scored another Apple prototype, this time posting photos and videos of an iPod touch carrying a rear-facing camera. The device is a 64 GB model and carries a "DVT-1" designation, which stands for "design verification test", a typically late-stage testing model.

The prototype does not, however, appear to be a particularly new creation, as its serial number indicates that it was manufactured in June 2009. In addition, a codename of "N18" appearing on a sticker on the back of the device indicates that this is a third-generation iPod touch prototype with camera similar to one that surfaced in August 2009 just ahead of the iPod touch revision launch in September. Similar prototypes also briefly appeared on eBay late last month.

Apple is believed to have scrapped the camera from last year's iPod touch revision relatively late in the design process, but may still be planning to include one in future versions.

oh no, now no one will but a Touch for the next 3-4 months. just think of Apple's margins.

The back doesn't look much different so I would think this was just an old prototype that they dug up, but they have leaked so many Apple products well ahead of schedule that I tend to believe them.

Both the iPhone HD and the new Macbook were leaked on this site.

I think Apple has a leak somewhere and the information is being fed to Vietnam, because I doubt Apple does any major business there.

in a way, i am kind of disappointed seeing all these leaks.

it reminds me of when i accidentally discovered my birthday presents in my parents' closet as a kid. it totally took the surprise out of opening the gifts.

Well, they were right about the MacBook..

I think this is a 3rd gen iPod prototype which just now got dug up. I doubt it's the new iPod, as it looks nothing like it's would-be big cousin, the iPhone 4G/HD/LTE/whocaresanymore.

When the touch is upgraded to 128GB it's time for the iPod Classic to be laid to rest. Hard drives need to disappear. They have such a high failure rate.

This drives home the fact that Apple pulls features out of products simply to have something to put into the NEXT generation, so that fanboys will buy BOTH. There was really no other reason why the iPod Touch didn't have a camera last year - it was even in the prototype.

Man, I didn't realize how ugly the iPod Touches were. They need to ditch the shiny metal case, it looks really cheap.

I have NEVER had even ONE iPod hard drive fail on me - ever. And I've owned every model and use them a LOT. I even have given away my old ones and I still don't think any of them have failed hard drives.

Apple are so leaky lately.... :p

I'd like an iPod touch similar in design to the leaked fourth gen iPhone.
