Four colours for the iPhone 5S and five colours for the iPhone 5C. I hope that is all because more would just be too confusing. More importantly, all colours should be available everywhere around the globe because with most Android/WP devices only a few colours are actually available for sale which sucks.

I'm at the point where i will not upgrade to upgrade anymore... the 5 for me now does evyrting needed anything more in speed, bells and whistle are only icing on the money..

So i will nt upgrade unless i break or lose my phone.

Exactly what I said a week ago - the champagne color looks nice and would go over well in countries like India and China, but a graphite/gunmetal would look better and would make much more sense globally.

Hope this rumor is true!

good to know there's more color for people to differentiate and makes it personal.

looking forward to the 5S launch.

2 options. Neither is "vanilla"

This looks great, but four color choices feels like too many. I think Apple is going to drop the slate in favor of the graphite and the silver one in favour of champagne. Two options for the high end 5S still feels like the right way to go. White/Champagne and Black/Graphite.

Black/slate is virtually indistinguishable from other black phones from a distance and I'm imagining that rectifying this was part of Mr. Ive's brief (either handed down to him from the board or handed down from him to his industrial designers).

The biggest weak point of Apple's competition is that many look/feel cheap or so similar to one another that we argue about degrees of roundedness. Apple already addressed some of this with the "watch-like" precision of the iPhone 5 design. This uniqueness is now something they need to amp up. Stand out from the competition by pumping up the fashion part of the design. Make the others feel so different from Apple's offerings that it homogenizes them. iOS 7 on the champagne or graphite will look stunning.

Apple's recent design decisions with iOS 7 and these leaks about the champagne and graphite iPhones have given me newfound faith in the company. People who know what they are doing are bending and breaking "rules" because that's what the best designers do and it's making some people uncomfortable. By definition any new design movement has been a breaking of the rules before it and many have been slow to see it. Vanilla is safe. People have stuck to the grids and color palettes they've trained themselves on and this is a shock to the system.

Apple's always realized that nothing operates in a vacuum. An appliance in a home is also furniture and a tool you have in public is also fashion. It's as important that this stuff stuns you in a commercial as it is to be practical when you get it. People might argue that Cover Flow in Finder is fluff, but it sure demoes a lot better in a commercial than list view, for example.

In summation, extroverts might like the white/champagne option and introverts might like the black/graphite version but everyone likes to feel high end and different.

Now these leaks are getting to be to much. I like to know whats up but is anything still a secret any more? Just start selling them already. There's nothing left to reveal on the 10th.

In this day in age, your only real option is to avoid the internet, at least all tech news sites.

sexy colors...

That graphite version looks really good actually, may have to consider that one.

damn sexy this gravite! would be an instant buy for me! never liked this "almost black"...

Sigh, I wish they would make the back colors uniform. I hate how the top and bottom of the 5 are different than the middle.

This is all making sense now. Metal choices for high end, colors for econo model.
BRILLIANT!
I predict a lot of clear back cases coming out!

Why are there just different Surface Colors...

..and not different Materials.
I´d love to have an iPhone 5S made from Steel like the iPhone 4 was. No scraches, no damage whe dropped...
I would pay 10% (~ €70) premium for that!

Why do people think Apple will get rid of the slate and silver models? The 4th and 5th gen Nano's came in lots of colors. I think Apple can handle 4 colors just fine.

Mmmmm. Loooook! Pretty colours ..... Shiny .... I like gold. Gold good.

Hey! Wait a minute ....it's basically the same phone with ... Pretty colours ...

D'oh!

iPhone 5C = (Pretty) COLOUR(ed plastic)

iPhone 5S = SHINY (Metallic)

Right. Now that's all cleared up can we just all do something else for the next two weeks until the big day arrives?

Thanks

Was waiting for the release of the 4th color ... finally!

Yes I always thought there would be one more new color besides champagne/gold. I see these as different color options, not Apple pandering to China and India with a gold phone. The metallic phones will be the higher-end 5S and the colored plastic will be the less expensive 5C.

I love the look of these new iPhones but I'm worried that all they shown so far is new colors and the fingerprint sensor. Is that really all there's going to be? Everything else seems like just the normal state of upgrades. Better processors and better cameras. I'm looking for something at least makes me want to buy a new phone and the fingerprint sensor isn't it. Also, why no leaks of new sizes? I don't think it is wise for Apple to deny that a certain segment of people want larger phones, just like they acknowledged the need for the smaller iPad.

Nothing I have seen so far makes me want to buy a new phone or iPad and I have bought the most expensive version of every non-computer device they have offered since the iPhone 1.

What iPhone or iPad do you have right now? If you have a 4S or anything older, then this would be plenty of reason for most people to upgrade. If you have the 5, you're right, not a lot of incentive to upgrade (though some people will). Also, most people with an iPhone 5 can't upgrade to the 5S anyway because of their carrier contracts. Just as the 3G and the 4S showed, the incremental processor, camera, and feature upgrades keep a still-relevant design fresh for the group of people either looking to get their first iPhone or upgrade from an older one.

There is no new size for the iPhone because they just introduced a new screen size and aspect ration a year ago. Their goal this year is probably to unify the line of new products with the same size screen, as it was when the 4S and iPod touch were introduced 2 years ago. The developers of Apps have just caught up to the new aspect/size and Apple probably isn't inclined to introduce another one this year- because of Apps and supply chain costs/efficiencies.

The iPad mini screen size was more straight forward because the iPad apps could be used as-is, with minimal, if any changes by the developers.

This has to be a supply chain nightmare for someone at Apple. When there was just one iPhone, they just had to worry about populating places with enough of them. Then when there were white and black, they had to keep track of which color was selling faster than the other. Now someone's going to be pulling their hair out... both the supply chain manager and the customer that wanted the one color that the store doesn't have.

I like the color choices though. I think they all play well with each other and on the higher priced phone while the bright colors play well with each other on the lower priced phone. I imagine they will come out of this looking really smart in their recent iPhone decisions.
