Going back before TouchID was even announced I've been saying that a finger print scanner on an iPad could enable multiple people in a family to "log-in" to an iPad. They could have the home screen, wallpaper, apps, email, messaging, photo streams and more be customized to their TouchID. If this doesn't show up in 7.1, then certainly by iOS 8.0.

I'd get an iPad Mini with Retina Display if it's not significantly underpowered compared to the full-size iPad. If Apple is having trouble meeting price-points, I think they should do the following:

iPad Mini A6/non-retina/1GB ram/plastic(?): $299

iPad Mini A7/retina/2GB ram: $399

I would gladly pay more for an iPad Mini that has similar power to the full-sized iPad. I'm just not sure if it's feasible to have the same parts in the Mini as the full-sized iPad for $100 cheaper, but I'd be willing to pay the same price as the full-sized iPad to get a Mini with the same specs—and I think a lot of other people would too. Otherwise I'll just buy the full-size version. I don't upgrade my tablet as often as my phone, so I want to "future proof" it. 1GB of ram has been in the iPad 3rd and 4th gen—so a third year of 1GB of ram (according to a report from TechCrunch) would be bad news. Don't expect to be able to run iOS 9—yes NINE—very well on 1GB of ram. My iPad 2 with 512MB of ram doesn't run iOS 7 very well. Just something to think about for people who plan out their upgrade cycles. It's the same reason I wasn't tempted to get the Mini—it's essentially an iPad 2 with a better camera, LTE and smaller form-factor. Not sure how well a 512MB ram machine will run on iOS 8—probably barely, if at all.

What I wouldn't give for Apple to just pop a 4GB RAM stick into an iPad so that apps like Lightroom would finally be feasible. I'm hoping 2GB will cut it. I care less about processing power than ram. Lack of CPU power means I just have to wait a little longer. Lack of RAM means certain things aren't even possible.

I don't think this looks very legit. The name "iPad" on the back is hardly noticeable, if you go and look at the back of the iPhone 5S Gold, it's much more noticeable.

I also thought the iPad name looked weird. I also wondered whether or not something this new would already have all the FCC text yet... maybe it's just carried forth from previous models?

Not saying the images are real, but the difference could be due to the angle of the picture. I've seen some gold iPhone 5s shots at an angle that the iPhone is harder to read.

how about instead of a gimmicky fingerprint sensor, apple implements a useful feature, such as the ability to set up multiple user accounts on an ipad?

How many iPhone photos did we see this year where people called them fake? And yet they all proved to be accurate. As far as this being a fully assembled device with markings, the rumors all point to an iPad event within the next 2-3 weeks. So one would assume these iPads are about ready to ship.

This is not a 3d render. This is an actual photo. Of course it could be a picture of the old one photoshoped to look like this, but not a render.

The subtle color fringing on the edges of the screen, the little lens blur on the edge of the picture, the very realistic reflections and light interactions on the metal and the subtle dust and imperfections are things that would be very unlikely to be seen in a simple 3d rendering. Only some very experienced high level professionals would do that and, for a fake, it would be easier to just make the "picture" a little low-quality, blurred and noisy instead.

And the gimmicky fingerprint sensor could automatically load the profile of the user that touched the button.

It looks nice but I just wish they would put a GPS in the wifi models :(

Yeah it's probably a photo, but I'm thinking it's likely to be a photoshop.

Take a photo of a current iPad mini (white), photoshop the home button, change the coloring of the aluminum pieces....

I hope it's true. I'm picking up the new iPads and would love a unified sensor on all my devices. After a week with the touch ID, I find myself missing it on my current iPad mini. It sure beats entering a password that I'm required to have if I want work email.

My daughter has a 5C and I (already) find myself resting my finger on the home button to unlock it. It's beautiful technology. And after only exactly one week, I'm totally used to it and couldn't imagine my phone without it. It's just seamless.

Some source states that full sized 9,7" iPad will come with 2GB of RAM as well, whereas the iPad mini will have only 1GB.

If true, for me this will be the time for purchasing my first iPad: Lighter + 2GB of RAM + Touch ID + Apple A7.

That's what I call a long lasting hardware, not like the 5S with only 1GB of RAM (and only 300MB of free RAM)

There is a touch ID shortage, no way are they going to use these in the iPad when they don't even have enough to put in the iPhone...

I must be the only one, but I just can't stand the ugly ring around the fingerprint sensor.
On the iPad, on the new iPhone, just absolutely ugly...ruins the design.

exactly, that would be much easier. ;)

Would love all of this to be true! That thing is NICE! Would love Touch ID on all my devices. Was going to opt for a black iPad next having had a white one for the past year, but a gold iPad definitely ticks my boxes! Especially with a gold 5s on the way!
