I must be the only one, but I just can't stand the ugly ring around the fingerprint sensor.
On the iPad, on the new iPhone, just absolutely ugly...ruins the design.

You may not be the only one but most likely you're not in the majority because that gold/silver ring adds a touch of class to the phone, IMO.

would it take finger prints from multiple people then??? Many iPads are shared by family members.

I'm not 100% sure if these pics are legit..
I love the gold iPhone 5s,but the Gold iPad Mini I'm not sure..
I really hope they don't increase the price of mini it's already the most expensive 7" class tablet and shouldn't be anymore expensive.they should add the retina screen at current price range but if these pictures are real and they have added touch ID sensor as well it could mean that they are going to sell it more expensive than the original mini which kills it for me.

Why? Not everyone is going to buy an iPhone. Apple should be focusing on every category so each customer's tech needs are fulfilled, not just yours. ;)

This. Time to replace my iPad2. It's either retina Mini (no retina-no Mini for me) or N7. If Apple ever decides to make a 4.3-4.5" iPhone then it too might get consideration. There's really no reason to not have retina on the new Mini. Touch ID? meh

I am highly doubtful that they will put touchid on an ipad mini. It doesn't make as much sense to me personally as it does on a phone and also they are trying to keep costs down on the mini and this would go against that. I could however see them making a silver trim ring around the home button just so that the esthetics match the new iPhone while using a standard plastic button without touch sensor. The only way I could see touchid useful on an ipad personally would be if you could log in as a different user depending on whose finger it detects. It would also make the auto-wake from the smart cover a bit awkward,.

Anyway this photo looks photoshopped to me. The shadow on the corner of the ipad on the picture of the back is too dark and if you look at the light reflections on the picture of the front each corner is reflecting light evenly but the ring around the touch sensor has asymmetrical reflection on it

Could be economies of scale as it is easier to make one home button to use in all devices?

There is a touch ID shortage, no way are they going to use these in the iPad when they don't even have enough to put in the iPhone...

What's your source on that shortage? The only people I've seen claiming to know about a shortage on the Touch ID sensor are financial analysts, and we know how accurate they are. Apple sold about 5 or 6 million iPhone 5Ss in 3 days. They obviously are able to make the things.

Seems like too many updates in one pass.

Really though, because a retina mini will TouchID, new colors and the A7/M7 chipset just seems like a dream! I don't want to get my hopes up. That would be a MASSIVE release.

Also seems like all that at one time would also bring a price increase with it. I'd much rather stay at the current price point.

I don't want to get my hopes up either. Though there really shouldn't be a price increase. Apple didn't increase prices on the 5S because of Touch ID. And when the full size iPad went retina the prices didn't increase either. Having said that, I'd take a price increase over not releasing a retina mini at all. Apple really has no excuse for not releasing a retina mini when the Amazon's and Google's of the world don't seem to have a hard time producing a tablet with high res display and decent battery life.

I am beginning to believe the mini will have Touch ID and possibly retina. The mini is not a budget device! It is premium, as shown by the price being so far above other 7" tablets. The only reason for the slower processor before was that the faster processor was not needed with the low-res display. Apple are clearly trying to make the mini a top choice for consumers and a high-end device, but the retina display would've eaten the battery life too quickly.

I have high expectations for the next mini, although retina is still only a "maybe".
The mini is a budget device just like the 5C based solely on hardware inside and price. Deal w/ it :p The cheaper alternatives are just making very little money while iOS devices make a good bunch. They are not gonna add touch-id and extra colors to it; it would cost them too much to be viable from a business point of view, plus it would canabalize even more sales of the reg size iPad.

Well, the introduction of gold (and space grey) is one way Apple could refresh the iPad mini without offering a retina display.

Oh I agree. Just seems like a lot to pack into one release is all. I'm definitely WANTING and HOPING they do it - all for $329.

I think it could happen as well because the iPad is already a relatively low margin device for Apple. We shall see. If the mini 2 DOES have retina, I'll be in for a difficult decision.

Gold Plastic Samsung colored tablet in 5, 4, 3, 2...

Already happened with the Galaxy Tab 3...gold rim on the scab brown tabs.

Now due up for Apple is taking the late 2012 iPad Minis and wrapping them in plastic and calling them iPad Mini C

If the ipad 5 is available in gold, that is what I will purchase as a first time ipad owner! Can't wait! The gold iphone wasn't for me, but iPad...? Yes!

Dont really know how much sense it makes toadd Touch-ID to an ipad. I dont even know anyone who cares to passcode protect them.

Also seems like all that at one time would also bring a price increase with it. I'd much rather stay at the current price point.

This seems like the central dilemma to me. All these extra goodies will cost more and apple already sliced margins for the mini. Yet there is clearly demand for both. If apple split the model, is there enough mini demand for both versions. I recall news from last winter that Apple was surprised by the demand, so I'm hopeful. I would pay extra for 1-2gb ram, a7 and retina.

Btw, gold anodize will not hold up as well so I would still want black (actual black).

Clearly a render. The lighting would have to be so well staged to be like that. After seeing the rig Apple uses for their photos, I highly doubt someone would have the chance to use one AND come into possession of a fully assembled unreleased device. This shouldn't even be on the front page.

I was hoping they would make the iPad in colour options to match the iPhone 5s and the iPad mini in colour options to match the current iPod touch. A Product Red iPad mini would fantastic.

It's almost ridiculous how many leaks surfaced prior to the iPhone 5s/c and iPad launch this year.

When has Apple cared about cannbalization? I'm sure they'd rather have someone buying a mini over a full size iPad than buying a Nexus or Kindle.
