I am beginning to believe the mini will have Touch ID and possibly retina. The mini is not a budget device! It is premium, as shown by the price being so far above other 7" tablets. The only reason for the slower processor before was that the faster processor was not needed with the low-res display. Apple are clearly trying to make the mini a top choice for consumers and a high-end device, but the retina display would've eaten the battery life too quickly.

I have high expectations for the next mini, although retina is still only a "maybe".

I'm beginning to wonder if we'll actually see a retina display in the mini......

If it has the fingerprint sensor and the new colors, perhaps Apple will think that will be enough to tide people over until they release the retina mini in 2014....

Fake/photoshopped photo or not, both TouchID and gold color seem to be quite common sense for the next iteration of iPads. A7 as well. I believe we'll see all of them in the October launches.

Not sure about the retina display on the minis, though, but it would sure be a very welcome feature.

Apple quality photos leaked after more analyst nonsense about retina mini possibly not being released? Hmmmm...

If you look at his other tweets, he has some pictures of the Space Grey iPad 5 back, against a small photo backdrop with professional lighting and such. That could be why the photo looks a little unreal -- it's taken in a set up situation.

I might actually pick up a Mini, doesnt really make sense if you already have a 5s but seems like fun if not ill just sell it

It does make sense to have both if you use it for work. I have to look up client's files and you can't do this easily on a phone so a mini would be a perfect work companion. There's a place for everything.

I love Touch ID on my phone, but I probably wouldn't use it on the iPad. Right now, I don't bring my iPad out in public that often...I use it for travel sometimes and occasionally if I'm waiting for my daughter at one of her many activities, but otherwise it stays at home. I might turn on a passcode/touch ID when traveling, but otherwise it stays off and I use an Apple smart cover on my mini...open the cover and the iPad is ready to use...love that. Having to put my finger down would be slower, while on my phone it's much faster, since I did use a passcode on my phone, and now it takes less than a second to unlock my phone with TouchID. Still, I expect it to be in all Apple devices coming up (even next year's version of the 5C).

The photos/render look real to me except for the apple logo, which looks lighter than the back rather than darker, which is how the apple logo appears on my gold 5S. In certain light you can get it to reflect lighter, but it's a very specific angle, and rarely the whole apple, and even then, it's a bright reflective light, rather than a lighter matte finish.

I MIGHT get gold, but I'll most likely just go black again. Sorry; "Space gray".

If I could get the front in black and the back and accents in gold then I would get it, but that wouldn't look as nice.

If the retina screen is finally included on the mini, color me sold. Personally I don't mind typing a passcode in my iPads, I don't hand hold them, nor need to access them in a hurry as often as I do with an iPhone.

FWIW I had a gold Samsung Alias flip phone circa 2003. The color has existed prior to last week.

Yes, and it has been such a phenomenal success throughout these past ten years that they NEVER stopped selling gold smartphones. Thus, there is no chance at all that they chose to reintroduce the color because of the rumors that Apple was releasing a golden iPhone.

They are? Doesn't seem like anybody would have assumed that when Apple originally released it, based on how they priced it.

They need to keep their margins high which is why they priced it where they did. If they could drop the price to $299 it would be far better. Perhaps they will keep the non-retina version and reduce the price of it to $299 and then release this with the touch sensor and all the bells and whistles for $399.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Apple was going to make all their buttons the same, but not necessarily with Touch ID?

It would make a lot of sense though.

Surprising the mini has touch id, it was questionable if the full size iPad would even get it yet

Just curious why you think the mini won't be retina?

To be fair though, and this hasn't been included it seems, is that this was announced via the Arabic channel for Samsung in the Middle East where gold is very popular. In fact, it's not even clear yet if the phone will actually BE gold - as in the metal, not just the color.

Seems like too many updates in one pass.

Really though, because a retina mini will TouchID, new colors and the A7/M7 chipset just seems like a dream! I don't want to get my hopes up. That would be a MASSIVE release.

Also seems like all that at one time would also bring a price increase with it. I'd much rather stay at the current price point.
