Wanted to ask this, I can faintly see A4 on the chip...

That is the Verizon board. The picture on the very top which shows the front and back of the board is the leaked part. The picture with the colored outlines is from ifixit.

Based on the leaks so far, my guess is that the iPhone 5 will have:

- same design as iPhone 4
- an A5 processor
- an 8 megapixel camera
- a slightly redesigned antenna
- GSM/CDMA capability
- possibly more RAM
- possibly a 64GB option

I doubt it will be called anything other than "iPhone 5" since iPhone 4S doesn't even make sense, if you think about it. I suppose there's a slight chance that Apple could argue HSPA+ is 4G and call it the iPhone 4G, but I doubt it since it would confuse consumers (many of whom already call the iPhone 4 "4G").

Somewhere down the line we'll probably see a cheaper version of the iPhone 4 with 8GB and perhaps cheaper components that could be sold at a lower cost out of contract. I highly doubt that will be called "4S" either, since (again) it makes no sense. Not sure where these name rumors came from.

Well they added an S before, what sense did that make?

With the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 I think Apple has switched to a system of naming their phones based on the generation number. 3GS (sort of) made sense because it was the third-generation phone, so the number 3 is in there...if they had just called it the "iPhone 3" it would've sounded to some people like a downgrade from the 3G, which was named for the 3G wireless technology it implemented. The new naming system makes more sense IMO.

Aren't most vibrators kind of circular?

nope, only 1.

on the iPhone 4S with an A5

I think there are some reasons in favor of an iPhone 4s with an A5 processor: with the iPhone 3GS introduction Apple started to sell the previous model for $99, so it wouldn't be anything new if Apple simply cut the price of the iPhone 4 when the 5 is introduced… BUT, there has been a lot of talk about about an iPhone 4S, with 8 gigs of memory to make it cheaper. Why make it cheaper instead of leaving it untouched (as apple has done two times already)? A reason could be that there are some upgrades that need to be balanced out (is it just the world phone thing?).
An $99 iPhone 4 wouldn't be anything new, but an iPhone 4S(peed) would likely carry an A5 in my opinion.

IMHO there looks to be both a left and right handed version of this Iphone, if u look at the top of the circuit board the one in the left photo it has the board that sticks out at the left and the one in the right photo has some circuit board that sticks out to the right.

Are you sarcastic?

Are u being? Do you honeslty believe that addin RAM is what makes the device/phone faster?

RAM( in case of iOS) makes for better multitasking, but GPU and CPU make the overrall experience faster.

Okay it seems like some people need to brush up on their component terms. So here I have put then in relation to the human mind.

RAM: Short term memory
SSD: Long term memory
CPU: Brain power (calculations)
GPU: Artistic ability

You're SO right. This is gonna fix that whole antennagate issue!

Someone said the A5 is not paid for. Enough iPad2 units have been sold to more than cover the development and production costs. It is a marginal cost unit now. Its only variable now is the process under which is manufactured. Samsung and TMSC have both been using ~40nm+ to produce the units.

Qualcomm only this month will begin making the worldphone chips in a 28nm process while their processors remain at ~40nm. One wonders if Apple has access to any fab in the world that can even currently make an A5 in a process below ~40nm to reduce the power consumption marginally.

The A5 is a fully amortized, low marginal cost production unit now. So long as the power envelope can fit in an iPhone 4S we are good. Given that Qualcomm has HSPA+ and LTE chips NOW one wonders if this low cost worldphone will have 4G built in to be enabled for specific carriers by software?

That would be a "killer feature".

Will someone put the pieces together already?!???

I'm hoping for a total redesign, although I absolutely love my iPhone 4. All I want is a bigger screen. If iP5 has a 4" screen, i'm sold.

i really don't see a screen increase happening, the Retina was the perfect time to do it and we did not get one then.

as for what parts we are seeing its clear apple have been on a cost cutting exersize, the World chip giving one handset for all networks and the A5, after all it would be cheaper to build one A5 chip than the A4 and A5.

Is what we are seeing the iPhone 5? its hard to say, i think it more likely we are going to see this new consolidated phone replacing the 3GS and we will have something new, how new is hard to say after all the iPhone still had no real threats out there, yes there is an army of Droid's available but other than tech heads the mass public just don't care about it.

i thing Apple could easily get away with a minimum spec bump for at least another 12 months using IOS 5 to make the phone look better rather than HW changes, it not what we want but the fact is it built for the masses who don't care about the spec, from there point of view all that matters is it an iPhone.

I agree totally there. First of all: If Apple continues with A4 and A5, they have to continue an old product for a long time if you consider that there will be warranty cases even after the last one is sold. They might adopt AMD's take on price with their Radeon chips: They fuse part of the chip and make it cheaper so they get the bigger spectrum of customers. The iPhone 4S might just be with smaller RAM, 5GP camera instead of 8GP, lower resolution display etc. Many people mentioned that a lower quality hardware might not result in lower costs. Only parts you have really a lower production costs will influence the price - that might be a camera or smaller capacity RAM. I think they cannot really save money on the display unless the iPhone 5 has a bigger screen. Another possibility would be that the high end phone would have a RFID or what ever the cardless payment method will be called which was off and on rumored to be ready for the market. That will mainly depend on adoption by stores though. Who knows what surprises are in Apple's desk? The iPhone 4 had the Retina Display, the iPad 2 had the dual core processor. The expectations are high and I hope Apple is not going to disappoint anyone there.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention that my wife has a Driod phone now(just a week old). All nice and dandy except the problems with ringing only one and dropping the call, crashing etc. Yea, it looks awesome with animated background and the notifier is cooler than the iPhone mechanism but to be honest: With all the flaws it has, I stick with the iPhone - after all I want to use it as a phone and want to be able to do that even if I forgot to charge it last night. Using all the things which make the droids more beautiful is sucking their batteries dry. Not talking about reliability or missing front facing camera, yet.

The SIM holder looks huge in these pictures. No wonder Apple wants to get rid of them.

Oh! Never thought about that! Though it's like super obvious: "iPhone 4s" sounded believable from the start, but why would they add the "s" if it isn't faster?
