If battery for the iPhone 5 is similar to the one we have in the 4S and assuming the 5 will have LTE, then this means we're probably getting a more power-efficient LTE chip.

Does anyone know if we'll also see any performance improvement on 3G?

3G? No. That is a full on bottleneck nowadays. Wifi yes.

Would love to know the origins of why they are so different, I'll have to google what the voltage/amperage differences are too, but I can't see why you'd need all the metal for a plug, seems a bit wasteful... and just bulky

Just to be clear, we're looking at a UK plug, not a 'euro' plug. Everyone else in Europe (and the world, bar Hong Kong I think) has plugs that are ostensibly the same as American ones.

The UK plug whilst bulkier is recognised as the safest in the world due to its inclusion of a specific earth pin and the fact that as mentioned, the long earth pin actually opens the 'gates' found in all UK plug sockets.

This means that our sockets are also extremely safe as the holes into the live connections are physically blocked when a plug isn't present meaning inquisitive tiny hands can't stick things in them!

So yeah, bigger but safer...

Isn't it something like the top pin is just for safety? Its longer so when you plug it in the two bottom holes open up. But when I went to the US I found the plus too small and none of them would stay in securely. Might of just been my hotel room though...

well for higher current devices we have also a plug that features a 3rd pin (ground). and even still are larger plug for large current pull (washer/dryers) and then a 240 plug which is more industrial and it's a 4 pin plug.

Thank you for the correction, but i don't think that plug would be rather safe to step on, lol
I'm looking at one of our outlets and at a UK plug, theres no way a child could stick his finger in a US outlet, but the UK prongs are huge... just seems like it could of been slimmed down a bit

Regarding battery life and battery size, don't forget how it is used. Here is the comparison for the Galaxy S3 with the current iPhone 4 and 4S (and many other phones too) as run by Anandtech. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6022/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-review-att-and-tmobile-usa-variants/3

The iPhone 4S is 5.3 w-h; the S3 is almost 8 w-h. See last chart. Cell tests were done in 3G not LTE; WiFi is WiFi.

4S does much better. I would expect the iPhone 5 to beat the S3 too. Although all the numbers are quite high. So maybe don't worry about it so much!

Back of that case looking like it make by worst factory in China. Let's hoping Apple not joking with us maybe this whole thing big joke so no one know what IPhone 5 looking like.

:apple: is going through great lengths to ensure the iPhone 5 won't actually be leaked. I'm dead serious, i think the phone will look completely different than what we've seen through rumors.

I scrolled through the comments just to see if any of you people are still out there.Sure enough there are!
Wow.Just wow.

It comes down to how you use it - 3G, 4G, Wifi, normal apps v watching films/games etc. There is no way to quantify personal usage, in the real world!

The should really just put a kinetic thing in there that generates a bit of a charge every time the phone moves - watches have been doing it for decades. And a solar panel on the back - a la Casio calculators ;)

I really don't understand all of the complaining about battery life. I use my iPhone 4 constantly throughout the day and it always makes it through until I go to bed. At which point, since I am going to be unconscious for 8 hours, I plug it in to charge overnight.

What is the issue? Why would anyone need a phone that lasts longer than a typical day?

The iPhone 4S doesn't last for more than 5 hours under my typical usage scenario of basically just browsing the web, so I doubt the iPhone 5 with its LTE will be suitable for my needs.

You have to remember the S3 has a 4.8" screen vs 3.5" for the iPhone. This probably makes a huge difference in battery drain.

Anyway with the power consumption improvements and not-so-huge 4" screen the iphone 5 will likely also have better battery life than the S3.

One thing I miss about my old mobile phone: its battery lasted for 6-7 days. That's days. Not hours.*
Guess we're still a few years off until Apple/iPhone hits that kind of performance.

* Nope. It was not a smartphone. I'm fully aware of that.

And my watch lasts for 3-5 years. That's years, not days.

Takes you longer than 5 hours to "finish?" Dang man. You must be popular with the ladies...

No thanks. Hipsters would crap themselves tho. A solar panel on the back of a device that faces the ground when you use it and then spends the day in a dark pocket.

My iphone is green!!!!!!1111 SHIFT+1
