In my perfect Apple world, Apple would just offer the iPhone 6S in three sizes. They have become so erratic with names and product design in recent years that it actually annoys me.

I disagree. Mere blown up photocopies of each is not the way to go. They should all have a purpose an a reason to exist on their own. The small should one should be as compact as humanly possible ala the the MacBook Air, the middle should be the all purpose one. The large should be the most capable ala the MacBook Pro

To me the difference in functionality should be a result of the screen size and nothing more. The smallest ("mini") should be designed for one-handed use in all scenarios, middle (iPhone) should be flexible for one-handed use and media consumption, largest (+) should be designed primarily as a tablet with phone functionality. All should be able to do what the others can in a pinch though.

Poor choise by Apple. Omitting the feature will keep devs from adding integral features using the tech.
This.

The increasing lack of hardware and software consistency across products will eventually kill off that unique integration that separates apple from the rest.

I actually use force touch all the time especially for previewing email and web links, or shortcuts on pics. Not including it just slows app adoption by third party developers, and truth to tell, within Apple itself.

A pity it appears not to be on the SE, I was actually planning on buying one and giving my 6s to my father, as I think I prefer a smaller screen. But I actually use force touch enough to want to stick with what I have. One less sale.

That makes no sense to me. They are all phones and used in the exact same way. It is different with laptops, because there you can at least prioritise in the way people want to use it (MacBook Air for portability, MacBook Pro for specs). This is not at all a factor with iPhones and there is no technical reason to distinguish them by name or hardware features. You can play the same games and use the same applications on iPhones, there is no distinction there.

Click bait title grabs you, "article" copy then makes it all fall apart into a cloud of ambiguity, with words like "purported" and "claims".

Moving back into reality now: NO ONE knows. Wait and see, its not that far off.

The good thing about Apple is that they are constantly experimenting and evolving their mechanisms; they've built and tested COUNTLESS prototype screens, only one of which made it to the 6S range, ergo THAT IS ALL ANYONE HAS TO GO ON - **PERIOD**. This "5SE" (again, why commit to a baseless name, only to risk looking silly when the real deal possibly gets released?) may be using a different form of 3D touch, and NO ONE AT ALL outside Apple design, know what other ideas they've developed, so let's stop pretending to be "insightful" when you just want attention through unfounded stories which are pieced together from scraps.

The most veracious synopsis.

Can we just officially started calling it the SE? There's no way they're going to adopt a previous generation's number on a new phone and call it the 5SE.

100%. Just give them another 10 years to catch up...
Or the rest of the tech industry to wise up? There's a lot of very wise decisions Apple makes which have propelled it into first place, and NOT copycatting specs, "just because", is why they're the leaders, not the followers.

The one thing I could see myself using 3D Touch for constantly is accessing the app switcher, if I had a 6S or 6S Plus. At least that's available throughout the OS and in all apps. Even if this iPhone might not have it I'm sure all of Apple's mobile devices will get it eventually, since it (or something like it) is a pretty important part of a home buttonless, all-screen front future.

That's what they should do if they had their customers' interests at heart. Although to be fair, with 3D Touch they're not missing much.

I've had almost every iphone since the iphone 1 and I don't see myself switching to android anytime soon but I'm slowly becoming less and less of an "apple fanboy".

No 3D touch on a "new" apple device which will probably have a "new apple device" premium price is just ridiculous.
Maybe I'm using it wrong but I wouldn't say that 3D Touch is really a killer feature... It's kinda nice to have but it's not used that much.

I don't understand why it can't simply be called an iPhone 6s. They could offer these phones in 3 sizes, without giving them an extra name.

"Hey what phone do you have?"
"I've got the iPhone 6s, the 4" one, and you?"

Same for the iPad.

But maybe one day MacBooks and Cinema Displays will have their extra name tag as well. Cinema Display Air Pro 5K Mini 2. MacBook Pro Air Mini 15" SE with Retina Display. Apple Pencil 3 Pro Air SE.

I wonder if Apple realises how ridiculous its product names sound.

Fine by me - couldn't care less about 3D touch.

If this is a 5s with all the other latest specs, then I may upgrade from my 5s.

Otherwise I'll stick with what I've got... the 5s (along with the 4s) remain the best iphones yet produced.
The only hesitation would be regarding what they may have in store with the 7..
