So those highly paid engineers couldn't figure out a way to make the housing just a few thousandths of an inch bigger to fit that Taptic Engine in huh?
No they couldn't, because the Taptic Engine is not a small layer in the screen for tracking the force, but a big fat vibrator which generates quick and short vibrations to emulate a click feeling. As I said before, there are reasons other than money. Paying more to engineers won't make the laws of physics go away.

In my perfect Apple world, Apple would just offer the iPhone 6S in three sizes. They have become so erratic with names and product design in recent years that it actually annoys me.

Or simply iPhone 2016 4"/4.7"/5.5". Same goes with iPad.

I'm calling it now, it'll be named iPhone 6 Mini or something along those lines. They wouldn't revert back to 5 and SE within itself is weird.

I'm pumped for this phone, my poor old 5C is on it's last legs, and I've been holding out for a "small" phone. And my contract is up too, so the timing is perfect. But although it's a small matter, I really hope they don't call it "SE". Apart from the anonymous, uncharismatic nature of that name, which isn't Apple sounding at all to me, how can you call a phone which is an economy cut down of your top phones a "special edition"? if anything it's a "not special edition". Which i'm fine with, my needs in a phone are modest, I value compact size more than anything. But I think it should be iPhone 6 Mini too.

I have no idea what 3D Touch is and I use my iPhone 6s & 6s+ every day. If it's a "flagship feature" as suggested I must be missing something. it would help if Apple included a user guide with their products so we knew what all the new features were.

Hahahha big fat vibrator. Yeah I'm sure they could fit it. I'm positive IF if is left out its on purpose.

The 6 continued to sell well after the 6s arrived as lower income brackets could now afford to jump ship for Apple. That's why the 6 will drop down to the entry level tier when the 7 comes out, to once again draw lower income Droid customers. Add to that constantly expanding markets and markets who were primarily Droid users to begin with -- also with an affinity for large handsets.

I found it is pretty amazing for you even say this. iPhone 6 will drop down to entry level tire when iPhone 7 comes out. Just look at the price of iPhone 5S right now. iPhone 6 is no way being cheap even if drops down to entry level position.

When competition comes up with high quality mid range phones, like Moto X Play, OnePlus X, Nexus 5X. Thoese phones are priced way lower than iPhone 5S...I really find amazing you actually believing when iPhone 6 will attract loads of Android buyer...

When people going to budget phone, iPhone 6's price is clearly out of reach.

P.S I am more than happy with my Moto X 2014 and all other Android phones I have. I really don't find iPhone is any better than Android. But that just me.

I'm not buying the new 4'' iPhone, but if I had to chose I'd rather have 2GB of RAM instead of 3D touch. As long as the SoC is similar to the one powering iPhone 6s the new iPhone will be a good choice

That Apple can make an event out of this baffles me. A 4" phone with outdated hardware and an iPad pro in the air size screen... And that's it??? Ok it's ok products but nothing to make an event for at all. Sounds like the biggest snooze fest of all time.

It is not about the event. It is about the products. They have made it a very small event in town hall on campus, so no high profile.

But a 9.7 inch iPad Pro with all features and power of a 12.9 inch iPad Pro in the thin and light body of the air2, is a rather good update, don' t you think?
It wil definitely be the most powerful regular sized tablet around for a while(also most expensive).
A 4 inch iPhone with the powerful soc of the 6s and the improved camera' s is also great for a lot of people.

A MacBook update or Apple Watch 2.0 would really complement it though. But won' t happen.

That's okay, Apple should omit 3d touch in some new phone models, just because. Why not. iOS 10 should be the most fragmented release of iOS. I encourage Apple to also omit the gyroscope, maybe the accelerometer and how about leaving out the front facing camera for good measure. Differentiate those models like they've never been differentiated before! (Differentiate by external size, not internal technology. PUT THE (SOFTWARE) HARDWARE IN THE (BOX) ENCLOSURE!

If Apple was honest, they would call it the iPhone LC.
Reminiscent of the Macintosh LC.

And we all know, what the "LC" stood for...

Apple's new business strategy for 2016: A 4 inch artificially feature-stripped smartphone...
Good luck on that one!

Did people really think the 4" was going to be heavily packed like the 6s? come on bro.

Yes, every consumer wants it ALL and now and with every possible feature and max technology possible.
And, all of that for half the price please.

If that doesn't happen Apple is doomed.

3D touch is a useless gimmick.
Let's add live photo.

Think it's going to sell like gang busters.

I feel like 3D touch will be a feature I become comfortable with pretty quickly, but it does not drive me to upgrade eaarly. My wife and I are on alternating update cycles. I got the 5, she got the 5s, I got 6, she got 6s, etc. So when I get the 7, I'm sure I'll love it, but not a must have. I'm on the track but there is not bit chomping.

Looks like Apple is trying to use 3D Touch as an up sell for the 6S
Ugh... it's like the days of Palm OS... they never offer an ultimate device. Each later model is always a "sidegrade" of sorts.

I hear they pulled the same thing with the Ipad Mini.... that they could've put Retina in it, but they released the 1st gen mini with non-Retina to get pull in some extra sales, then release it with Retina to get everyone else who were holding stubborn and firm without it.

They could call it "iPhone Retro" and have it run a version of iOS9 that looks like 6. I want my buttons back.

I had Mac LC 630, which I used for writing my master thesis, occasional games and Marathon.
Beautiful computer! It is still at home, boxed though. But I have only wonderful memories of small 12bm RAM computer which was able to drive MS Word, Photoshop and Illustrator!

I have top of the line 6S Plus 128Gb and I haven't used 3D touch even once.

Good - One less thing on there that I don't use anyways...

(all but forgotten it exists on my 6s save for a JB tweak to clear all notifications at once)
