For you. :)

I personally find it extremely useful and a nice time saver when implemented correctly by the right apps.

Meh. Shortcuts is one of the most useless features ever introduced into iOS.

Peek and pop... Eh. If you remember you can do it in that app then it's sort of interesting, otherwise... Eh.

The problem with the feature is that it's mystery meat navigation. I'd bet that less than 1% of iOS users use it.

I like the design of the 5s. I would like it even better if it slightly smaller bezels and chins. Say a 4.2 inch display with 1335x750 display in the same size unibody and it would have been perfect. I' d have bought one. Love to see the stealth black/grey color of the iPhone 5 backs f keep the chamfered edge.
But it won' t.
A shame really.
But if they did all of the above, and 3D Touch was included, it would be too competitive with the 6s and they had to price it higher.
Hoping for a a9 with 2gb, 12mp and 5mp front camera though , with nfc, updated cellular and wifi.

After someone who uses Touch ID, u get used to something, so its understandable why a "future phone" which doesn't have it will cause issues...

However, i use Touch ID so i'l pass on the SE. Camera wise, would be good, but i don't use the current camera hardly anyway... so to me, i won't get any benifet...

You do realise that Touch ID is the fingerprint sensor to unlock the handset/verify payments & passwords (which is included) whereas 3D Touch is the peek/pop feature in the OS and apps themselves?!

3D Touch. A "flagship" feature I never use. I honestly forget my phone can do it. It's a feature we never knew we didn't need.

I use it a lot. Shame there isn' t a killer feature or app yet.
I think it would be more useful with a more complex OS to mimic the right mouse click. Shame it won' t be on the iPad Pro till at least October, with iOS pro or PadOS or something like that.

Why would a budget phone include a flagship feature that are present in the newest phones? I know 3D Touch hasn't come to life as such but it will get better and better.

I think this is going to be a bad idea. The SE is going to cannibalize the 4.7 version. 5.5 will be unaffected because their sales come from people who buy it by choice and aren't just r buying the cheaper option.

But alot of consumers will just buy the 4 inch version be she it's cheaper.

I really just need an iPhone 5s with VoLTE enabled... Typical for Apple, phones from this manufacturing date (and even prior to that like BlackBerry Z10) have VoLTE.

arent most iPhone 6S commercials on TV focused on 3D Touch and how great it is and now they take it out of a new iPhone? lololol

Newness doesn't matter. Every technology comes at a cost other than money. 3D Touch requires a special vibrator called Taptic Engine, which is quicker and much bigger. That's why the iPhone 6s actually has a smaller battery than the iPhone 6. While the iPhone SE will have a bigger battery than the iPhone 5s.

iPhone 6 ( 1810 mAh )
iPhone 6s ( 1715 mAh ) with 3D Touch

iPhone 5s ( 1570 mAh )
iPhone SE ( 1642 mAh ) without 3D Touch

You can't have everything, something has to give. Apple's job is to find the best compromise.

So those highly paid engineers couldn't figure out a way to make the housing just a few thousandths of an inch bigger to fit that Taptic Engine in huh?

BS

I've had my 6s for about 4 months and I never use 3D Touch. I think the main problem is that when it was launched the feature did not work on so many apps so for me it became a gimmick I would play with the first few days. It's not a useless feature but it's also not a requirement to have either.

If i was on a budget id buy a Samsung or Tracfone. But I like iPhone. I just can't see Apple not including 3D Touch. Why introduce it if you're not going to use it from here on out?

If people want a bigger iPhone then they'll buy a bigger one.

Holding specs and features back will only hurt sales overall. Make no mistake. It won't gaurentee they will just opt for the bigger size. They might not buy at all.

Longer battery life, faster cpu, more RAM (hopefully), better camera and ApplePay packed into light 4” phone minus 3D Touch > sounds like a good upgrade for any old iPhone users.

PS - Didn’t know 3D Touch sooo important for many ppl… anyways, someone that upgrade from old iPhone won’t be missing it ;)

The same article on nowhereelse includes an alleged schematic of the new phone, unfortunately showing the camera lens bulge, as with the 6-series phones.

Yeah I agree this is an issue. Until close to 100% of phones have 3D Touch support, developers are pretty limited in how they can use it as they need to supply alternative interfaces in their applications for devices without it. This in turn may prevent core functions using 3D Touch and gives us the current scenario where the feature gets implemented as an afterthought and not as a primary more intuitive way to do things. The technology has far more potential than just triggering shortcuts to functions that were less than a second away using traditional methods anyway.

Sure, many people don't use 3D Touch now but I'd argue there's very few apps that offer any benefit to using it. If 95% of the phones on the market had it then developers can make more useful use of it and customers will likely use it more often.

Unfortunately shipping devices without 3D Touch will probably slow down the adoption by developers.

That said, developers and Apple probably still need to overcome the visibility difficulties associated with users not knowing where it when they can use force touch.

Why o why would it "slow down" adoption by developers? ?? Why?

Let's see -- the iPhone 6/6+ sold a ridiculous 250 MILLION UNITS.. The 6s/6s+ sold about 75 MILLION over the holiday quarter - yea some 5s are in those numbers - but seriously are you kidding me that an audience of at least 100 million devices will "slow developers" thinking about adding this?

Bull. There's nothing wrong by a company saving features for what they may position as premium devices and 3D Touch I've always said will become a huge feature as Apple unlocks what it's really capable of.

For me one BIG access feature of 3D Touch would be when you finally can go directly to a SETTING feature without maddeningly going back to that icon and digging deep in that app.

I wonder what they could have done with it had they not submitted to the "flat UI design" fad. If iOS still had a more "3D" skeuomorphic UI like it used to, they could have designed UI elements that support peek to "protrude" a bit to show that it's available (perhaps including a push in animation if you use it). That would probably have been much more intuitive.

As it is, I have to agree that 3D Touch is pretty useless.
