The design is tweaked, which is what fashion designers do. Each season brings some new tweaks on the same old thing. There's very little innovation in the technology. Incredibly boring updates.
No, it is not what fashion designers do. You do have definitively more than a few tweaks in each collection. Plus there was no tweak at all in the shape of iPhone 3Gs, 4s (just a change in antenna band position for improving reception with no impact on appearance, so only drive by function), 5s (just the disparition of space black which was very fragile and the new home with touch ID, so only drive by function) and 6s.
Worst of all, the actual Mac computers the company was famous for don't get updated at all.
Each time Intel release a new chip, people are complaining about the few improvement it brings. But then, people are complaining also if PC manufacturer does not use the latest ship with insignificant improvement.
And people are complaining about the looks because that's what they care about. Yes, Apple is a fashion company now. Even Apple thinks so.
The people who are complaining are the one obsessed by the look, and if those people go buy a new Samsung each year instead and stop whining here it would be so great...
The only product Apple treats like a fashion product is the watch : the gold edition with no functional advantage over the other models, and several times a year a new collection of accessories.

I think it's smart to see if you like the Note 7 and if you don't, you can return it like you stated with in 14 days. Which then you would have the option to take a deeper look at the iphone 7. Let me know what you think of the Note 7 and good luck. If you don't like the Note, I will see you on preorder day for iPhone 7.

Yup, if I do not like it, then I will return it and pre order the 7 for sure lol, This is the longest I have had a single iPhone without upgrading already

Thing is I'm already thinking of leaving apple and switching back to windows.
  • Dated phones with no new tech
  • Dated laptops, Dated mini
  • Cloud services with issues
  • Not supporting users - replacing software with versions that have less features (Aperture/Final cut)
  • Homekit - bit of a joke at the moment
  • Where is touch screen on the macbook? (There are uses for it and no I can't program on an iPad without a cursor for fine text control, fingers don't cut it for that)

Good luck with that.

Dated phones? Good one.
Dated laptops, I agree but we'll see a new one very soon.
Cloud issues? Right. Every software has its outages sometimes. Especially with the amount of people using it.
What's wrong with HomeKit? It's only two years old. Some things take a while, teething period right now.
You want a touchscreen on a laptop? Why?

I have a 6, what new useful features will it have?

  • Wireless charging?
  • Dual lens camera/OIS?
  • Waterproof?
  • Hard to break glass?
  • Refreshing new design? (Fashions change...)
  • New macbook pro to go with it, mine is 4 years old and waiting for something fresh to replace it with?
  • Headphone jack?
Mine is currently plenty fast.

Possibly wireless charging and possibly wireless earbuds.

OIS on the smaller model and an improved camera anyway.

Water resistant. No phone will ever be waterproof, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Yes, well, the new Gorilla Glass 5.

New MacBook Pro'a later this year or early next year.

No. Get over it. It's gone. Others will soon follow suit, you watch.

But they won't explain it to anyone why they chose to keep the current design, because they don't have too. It's not their job to explain why, it's their job to sell the product on why the customer wants it, for those who so choose.

If Apple explained why they do things the way they choose, then they would openly answer questions about their hardware specifications, but they don't and never will. That's not how Apple operates.
Apple has explained decisions in the past. Apple have been more open in the past. If they want to sell product to me and my friends Apple should revise their strategy as described above.

Ik hope you can get it for a very reasonable price by then. Otherwise look around if you want real value for money.

I've seen new 64 Gb iPhone 6 (my current model) for way below 600 CHF during Q2-2016. That was 18-20 mo after their release, when the initial recommended price was around 800 CHF (too lazy to check).

I can't see a single good reason why one shouldn't be able to pick up a 6s with a 25-30% rebate as well. Which would make it an OK value-for-money proposition (as far as Apple is concerned).

Their not going to explain to anyone, let alone your friends, as to why they are keeping the same iPhone design at the September Keynote. Guaranteed.

No, I beg to differ. Design, aesthetics and style mattered plenty as Apple was announcing industry defining designs under Job's stewardship. Remember the reactions to the iMac G4. The appreciation for the milky white iPod Classic. The iPhone. Then the iPhone 4. It's not an "obsession with looks" we're talking about. It matters to people because, let's face it, Apple has accustomed us to expect design leapfrogs. The audience's excitement, gasps and cheers at each product announcement are embedded in collective memory. Apple was the cool kid while all the suits were sleepwalking at CES.

Other than that, external design changes signify something new and buyers want to SEE they have the latest and greatest, particularly on a phone they pay top dollar for. After merely 1 year I agree it would be gratuitous -but after 2 years it's a logical thing to expect.

It used to be the other way around: if you want specs, go buy Galaxies. If you care about flawless design with an all-rounded experience, go Apple. That distinction simply isn't there anymore. For all their billions, there isn't a post-Jobs design that excites or pushes the envelope further.

I should have said "obsessed by fashion or trends", which is more about social and is time dependant, instead of "by look" because Apple actually cares a lot about the aesthetic and identity of their devices.

Well... considering the iPhone 6S, SE and September's 6S^2, they don't seem to care all that much about aesthetics really. Their industrial design strategy appears to be mandated purely by complacency and rose gold.

Personally, I like the design of the iPhone 6

My only issue with iPhone 7 from isn't really the antenna lines, boring rear, and camera hump. I am a little bit annoyed by its bezel from the top and bottom.

Apple, it is 2016! I saw Motorola have the Moto X at 10mm shorter with the same 4.7. But this is Apple being Apple. The Nexus 4 and Huawei Ascend P6 were also shorter. Sony Xperia ZR as well. A difference of 6-10mm in height can make a huge difference with one-handed use. The Plus models are now too tall when the S7 edge and Note7 proved it can be shorter.

Who knows if they even correct this with the iPhone 8? So much wasted bezel, wasted space. Instead of being obsessed on thinness, Apple, why not focus on the width and height next time?

I liked it too when it was first released (albeit the obvious flaws like camera hump, antenna lines). But not enough to have to spend 3 years with it while the competition is improving constantly.

The heigh has more impact on pocketability than on usability since for x mm of total heigh reduction the screen only shift by x/2 due to symmetrical design. Obviously, if you reduce the size, you reduce the battery.

well the 5'5 inch plus does feel like a 6 inch device with all the wasted time. hard to believe the S7 edge has the same screen size as the iphone 6s plus

Nah, it's like buying a car with a stereo that has no auxiliary input, but has bluetooth instead. It's great that such a thing doesn't exists, right?

It's not like that at all. The iPhone has another means to connect to audio -- Lightning; just like cars with bluetooth have USB ports. When Apple removes the Lightning jack, and yes that day is coming too, then you can make this snarky remark. Until then, removing the 3.5mm jack is only eliminating one redundant physical method of getting audio in and out of the phone. As for the car stereo, I haven't used my 3.5mm jack since I got a new head unit with a USB port. So they could just as easily have removed it from there as well. Prior to that, I hated having to plug two wires into my iPhone -- one to charge and one to listen. I hated it so much, I bought a $20 BT dongle, so I only had to plug one wire into my phone to charge it, and BT would automatically connect to listen. Now, anyone with any kind of phone can plug into my USB port and play their music without any special cables.

I recently rented a older car that only had a 3.5mm jack, and I didn't bring that kind of cable with me, having not used one in two years. I stopped at a local convenience store and they didn't have one male to male 3.5mm cable, but they did have a collection of Lightning accessories. So on that trip, I wasn't able to listen to my iPhone.

"if you reduce the size, you reduce the battery"

Not true, note 7, S7 edge, OP3 and others are smaller that the 6 plus and have larger batteries.

I've just swapped from iPhone 6s to an S7 which has a 5.1 inch display and is almost the same size as the 6s but has a much larger battery.

I find it quite astonishing when you compare the size of the Note 7 and the 6s plus, the Note 7 is a little fatter but it's smaller in every other way but houses a 3500mah battery and a 5.7" screen and that pen thing!! So yeah, apple could lose those bezels and improve the phone a lot I reckon!

I'm confused by your post... I replied sarcastically to some guy that said that removing the audio jack was like removing doors from a car. And it's not like that, cause the main function of a car is to take you from point A to point B. Same with the iPhone: it allows you to make phone calls (regularly through built in speakers and microphones, like any phone before it.)
The 3.5mm jack is just a connector the car uses so you can connect an audio source to the built in speakers of the stereo (listening to music is not the main function of the car.) The jack is hardly the main feature or deal-breaker in a car. The same goes for the iPhone: it uses that connector as an option for headphones to listen to music and as an optional microphone/speaker to answer calls, but you really don't depend on it for the phone to keep working, or play music. You can have other connections for it, let it be wired or wireless. That's what I meant, car stereo manufacturers are getting rid of the jack in favor of bluetooth for audio sources and no one is complaining because that's what the market is asking for. People just get a stereo that satisfies their needs for whatever we do regarding in-car audio and phone sync, being happy by not using wires... People are just gonna get new lightning or bluetooth headphones, or even small adapters/DACs because technology changes in favour of convenience and quality improvements, but with Apple everyone complains and blows things out of proportion. In the end, I don't know if you are supporting my comment or debating it... cause it seems you are supporting it but at the same time you call it snarky...?

Looks like an iPhone 6 circa 2014.

Now that's progress...

What, no antenna lines, slightly different camera bump? Only Apple Devotees will notice. Slap a case on it... They look the same. Apple laughs all the way to the bank.

Yes, well, the new Gorilla Glass 5.

Dated phones, yes, can you imagine going in to a shop later this year. So whats new, yes we have this new phone, well its not really new, it's the same shell, with a little faster processor..., yeah, we've run out of ideas you see.

OIS smaller model, no that'll be on the pro one only.

Water resistant - if the current iPhone gets dunked, say goodbye. Its not rocket science to waterproof (resistant) something

Gorilla Glass 5 - will still have cracked screens.

New Macbook pro, yeah, 3+ years between releases doesn't cut it.

Whats wrong with home kit? I don't have kit in my home.

Touchscreen on a laptop - why? Same reason I want touchscreen on an iPad, to touch it. Drawing, reading - to be able to flip the screen and use it like an iPad Pro, whats wrong with that?

Cloud issues, I'm not talking about outages, I'm talking about things like sync not working properly.

Get over it? Yeah, nice comment.
