In August we usually see the final design leaked, so I guess the previous leaks were correct.
I'm not happy about the 3.5 jack removal, but I'm optimistic about the larger camera, especially the dual sensor on the plus.
I'm not going to buy this iPhone since I'm a 6s owner so I really hope they have a lot more in store for 2017

I think even 6s/6s+ owners with money to burn or a sugar daddy will think hard before upgrading. Definitely not a "don't even think about it, just buy it" purchase. More like a "I lost or broke my iPhone and need a new one" purchase. Or maybe a "I still have an iPhone 4S or 5 and desperately need a new one" purchase.

Wished it had a space black or space blue option with black antenna lines.

Nothing really new the past few days except Apple officially calling it iPhone 7 which I prefer over 6se. Lucky 7. Then iPhone 8 next year.

New processor? 256gb option? Faster touch ID (as compared to iPhone 6), 3D Touch (again, as compared to iPhone 6)? Improved water resistance? I think there are lots of reasons to upgrade.

None of these points fulfills a true NEED for 95% of all existing iPhone users... But removing the headphone jack is going to p*** off a majority of current users for sure.

That the reason why Apple choose to upgrade the internal but keep the same design ?

That the reason why, here, on a tech site, people are mainly complaining about Apple keeping the same design for a third year ? May be MacRumor is a fashion site now ?

The design is tweaked, which is what fashion designers do. Each season brings some new tweaks on the same old thing. There's very little innovation in the technology. Incredibly boring updates. Worst of all, the actual Mac computers the company was famous for don't get updated at all.

And people are complaining about the looks because that's what they care about. Yes, Apple is a fashion company now. Even Apple thinks so.

I see the genius in this release. As a business person I can see the reasoning that many here are failing to grasp. Look at the latest estimated iPhone users who are NOT using a 6s or 6s+, there are nearly 475 million iPhone 6 and earlier devices in active use. That's a staggering number of people who will find the iPhone 7 compelling. The upgrade cycle has grown the last two years. Two years ago 14% of all iPhone users upgraded, last year that number grew to 20%. If we see a similar trend we can assume that 26% of the 475 million iPhone 6 and earlier devices will upgrade. This could be one of apples strongest iPhone releases in quite sometime. They are running their business by the books, not our preferences. It also sets up a monumental iPhone 8 release. All this is to say buy stock this month if you can. 18 months from now it will be at an all time high.

I'm still using an iPhone 6. To be honest nothing with the iPhone 7 has me excited. I look at new Samsung phones and all they are doing and it just makes me more angry. I'm not switching but just don't see anything that makes me wanna upgrade. Same with my iPad. It's the one called the new iPad so it's 3? Years old and I have yet to see a point in upgrading when I see what u can do on a suface. An iPad should be running OS X not iOS. As apple customers we need to stop buying until they get the point and stop being, in some cases 2 full years behind the competition. They are milking it because we keep buying their ****!

This sounds like hyperbole. Here's at least one study that suggests the percentage who will be inconvenienced, or even care will be otherwise.

http://www.macnn.com/articles/16/01...o.ask.apple.shoppers.what.they.thought.131986

Add to that this only affects flagship upgraders. There are over half-a billion iPhones, and according to Apple when the SE was announced, over 60% of iPhone customers were still using 4" phones. So it's unlikely 95% of all existing iPhone users will be upgrading to the next iPhone to even be affected by the removal of the jack. Considering there are well over half-a-billion iPhones in the world, and the latest iPhone has only sold something like 150 million units, if that, the majority of current users will not likely even be affected. Add to that the results of this survey, and of those who do upgrade, even the majority of those who lose the jack won't be upset.

Unfortunately, if this is the 7 (or 7+ or 7 Pro or whatever) it is not very revolutionary or evolutionary. The 6+ and 6S+ look the same. Yes, it will be faster, but that camera has to be revolutionary for it to be a game changer.

This might be the first year, I don't jump at the 'newest' upgrade. Might even go pick up the Note 7... Just wish they had gotten to an edge-to-edge (or closer to the edge than they have).

Guess we will wait for an official announcement before choosing a the right option.

why is apple falling so behind with features? They aren't simply keeping up with the innovation, what is taking them so long to put the features in iphone 7 while others have already done it? I can name a few:
- water proof
- OLED
- wireless charging
- more ram (less restarting the app)
- bigger battery
Yeah, yeah, Apple might not have those things, but they did remove the headphone jack.
Isn't that enough for you?

You forgot "Only Apple can do this"... ;-)

You're right. Only Apple can keep releasing under-spec super-expensive phones with very minimal upgrade features and still make a extraordinary sales.

Heck, Apple can even rebrand the iPhone 4 as iPhone 7 and people will still jizz over it.

Didn't Tim cook at the beginning of the year say they are releasing lots of "innovative products this year"?

So the same iphone, and the same ipad (but more expensive)

Lost direction since Cook has taken over.

I honestly fail to see the point of your post... A (intrusive) feature change stands for itself. Why would one need to discuss it in the light of the global user base?

We have all Apple Products but for this exact reason I just preordered the Blue Note 7, figure why not give it a try with what Apple is putting out this year, this is the best time to try something new. I have 14 days once I get it to decide if its for me or not at least :)

I think it's smart to see if you like the Note 7 and if you don't, you can return it like you stated with in 14 days. Which then you would have the option to take a deeper look at the iphone 7. Let me know what you think of the Note 7 and good luck. If you don't like the Note, I will see you on preorder day for iPhone 7.

I really hope you're right on this and that Apple is waiting till their new Campus comes to life and launch the innovative and quality products we are all waiting for for far too long. I only see one problem... that is that the competition isn't sitting still either as you can see by their products. Samsung is rumored to introduce a foldable S8 in April next year and when you objective compare the S7 edge with the iPhone 6 plus and the rumored iPhone 7 (if those rumors hold truth) you can come to the conclusion that spec, design, feature wise (even experience) the S7 edge wins. New and very good Android phones are introduced at a very fast pace. Even brands I've never heard of before are outpacing Apple at the moment. If Apple waits till september 2017, it's too late. Even longtime fans like myself are losing faith. Once I make the decision to switch (I'm already been forced by Apple work related to look elsewhere) I won't come back. I predict that by the time pictures of the rumored iPhone 8 come to life, some other brand has already introduced such a product on the market.

I really don't understand why people are so convinced that everybody who owns an iPhone 4, 5 will upgrade to an iPhone 7. Maybe you all live in the USA but here I see lot's of friends moving to Android and not regretting it. Numbers and statistics prove this (see iPhone share Europe/Netherlands). Huawei P9 got very good reviews and already comes with dual camera at a fraction of the price the iPhone 6S cost, even the iPhone 6 is more expensive.

I also hear a lot that Apple owns the high end market. Well, that was true till a few years ago. Here you see more Galaxy S7 edge then you see iPhones 6/6s. Galaxy S7 edge is even more expensive then the iPhone 6S.

I sound very negative on Apple and I admit I can't come up with something positive lately. That's because I'm very disappointed in a company neglecting their loyal pro customers and even milking the last dollars out of their way outdated product lines. Name one category except earning (milking) money hard-/software where Apple excels these days?

They are behaving like they are stepping out of the computers all together... They are behaving like they can't keep pace with competitors with phones... They behave like a company thats very greedy...

I want my old Apple back! The Apple that was passionate in high tech and bringing the best to their consumers. I don't mind paying a bit more if this holds true. But I hate paying those same high prices for things filled with last year tech.

Important OUS perspective. I second every word you say.

By the way: Apple's low market share OUS is also the reason why Apple pay is not such a big deal in real life: If only 15% of the smartphone user base own an iPhone, this "new" feature has very limited market penetration and relevance.

I wish it was still 15%. For second quarter 2016 it has fallen to 11.5 % worldwide.

You can't please everyone. I find it funny how people have already made their decision this year.

"It looks the same on the outside so it's exactly the same as last year's phone."

So funny. Once you hold on in your hand, see the pictures on Apple's website OR see all the new features it has, you'll want one.

For people on the iPhone 6 or below, this is a major change. For those with a 6s, maybe not so much, but trust me, it'll fly off the shelves.

I have a 6, what new useful features will it have?

  • Wireless charging?
  • Dual lens camera/OIS?
  • Waterproof?
  • Hard to break glass?
  • Refreshing new design? (Fashions change...)
  • New macbook pro to go with it, mine is 4 years old and waiting for something fresh to replace it with?
  • Headphone jack?
Mine is currently plenty fast.
[doublepost=1470389326][/doublepost]
"The company is predictable."

Let me guess, they're doomed? People like you make me laff. If it's not for you, don't but it, simple. As I've said already, we all know next year's phone will be extraordinary.

You watch, it'll sell out and break records from all previous years.

Thing is I'm already thinking of leaving apple and switching back to windows.
  • Dated phones with no new tech
  • Dated laptops, Dated mini
  • Cloud services with issues
  • Not supporting users - replacing software with versions that have less features (Aperture/Final cut)
  • Homekit - bit of a joke at the moment
  • Where is touch screen on the macbook? (There are uses for it and no I can't program on an iPad without a cursor for fine text control, fingers don't cut it for that)
[doublepost=1470389760][/doublepost]
So with all the people on here saying they won't be upgrading, does that mean I will actually be able to pre-order one for release date, rather than having to wait until later because they have sold out of the first batch :D

Its Apples new strategy to make sure they have enough to sell on release day, make them underwhelming upgrades.

But what happens when a year after Apple removes the headphone jack, the flagship Android models all drop their headphone jacks?
This is getting so dull, stop showing off your lack of tech knowledge, Apple are copying the existing droid devices that don't have headphone sockets. Zzzz zzzz
[doublepost=1470391138][/doublepost]
Agreed on the Note redesign point. You are, however, off base with the naming/numbering scheme.

First, there's no conclusive evidence the next iPhone will be called iPhone 7.
Second, Samsung skipped 6 to align the brand experience with the Galaxy S7 since they're both 2016 devices. I'm pretty sure their 2017 offerings will be Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

The iris scanner is infra-red and works with both glasses and contacts - only the setup requires their removal. It also works at night. Sure it might be a gimmick but then again, when using a phone with gloves it gives the user another unlock option. Gimmicks do have a place in changing the thought paradigm and spurring on innovation.

It's OK to be an unabashed Apple fan, however, you come off a something of a cult follower; unable to do proper research to support your points - not a good look.
Do u not think he knows this, it's his usual BS that I'm so surprised anyone falls for... he's an Apple troll on an Apple site. Go figure..

Apple will need to explain at the keynote exactly and clearly why it has decided to retain this rubbish design.

But they won't explain it to anyone why they chose to keep the current design, because they don't have too. It's not their job to explain why, it's their job to sell the product on why the customer wants it, for those who so choose.

If Apple explained why they do things the way they choose, then they would openly answer questions about their hardware specifications, but they don't and never will. That's not how Apple operates.

I want to see the Plus/Pro version since that's the only one even worth batting an eye at. I don't know how Apple will sell me on it, probably something with how 'amazing' the new dual camera setup is, but I'm sure I'll hunker down and give in since I've had my 6S+ since it launched last year.

So, this is going to be the lowest selling iPhone in Apple's history. I hope they have some groundbreaking Macs, Watches or whatever else to be released soon to compensate for the massive loss incured by the iPhone 7

I'm looking forward to upgrading to a 6S in September.

Ik hope you can get it for a very reasonable price by then. Otherwise look around if you want real value for money.
