Reporting in from the upper west side apple store. The non preorder line is insane. It wraps around the street block, Avenue block, and then around another street block

Scratch that. The line is a total of 6 blocks.

what about preorder line?!!

I'm about 20th. Looks like that goes to at least Amsterdam now

Stuck in Vegas or I'd be out there with you. Guess this means I'll be able to avoid the line when I go Sunday.

I have never done a pre-order and in store pickup before. Does that line generally not get as long and move faster than the walk-in line?

There was an Apple retail guy on the other night. He said the typically pull 2 reservation to 1 walk-in. I'm sure that can vary in each store though.

Has anyone still not received an order confirmation to actually come into the store and pick it up?

Preorder line at NYC w. 14th store moved pretty fast. I was at least 50 people back and I was out by 8:30 (including some setup time).

How much time in total did it take you? And do they open the box?

I got there around 7:45, so once the doors opened I got my phone within 30 minutes. They don't force you to open the box, but I did it there since it killed my old phone and I wanted a usable phone. Preorder line was moving a lot faster than the standby one.

were you just upgrading? what kind of ID did they ask for?

Very interesting, everyone else please keep us posted. I work a few blocks away from the store, and I am planning to take an early lunch and get in line as I suspect many people will spend their lunch break in line.

I was just upgrading, but it took a little longer since the phone was in my dads name since he is the account holder. Even though my id didn't match the billing address, I was an account manager and had the card used to purchase so they were fine.

awesome, yeah i didn't think they would make a big deal out of it, but i got nervous reading the ID requirements in the pickup email they sent.

Did in store pick up. Ordered 6 phones, but was only able to pick up 4. The other 2 still say processing, but say they will be available today to pick up. Anyone else have this issue?

So I was about 20th in line on the UWS store. They took about 12 people to start with. Each customer had 2 Apple employees: 1 that dealt with the phone and another that dealt with Accessories/carrier issues. Took about 5 minutes for them to retrieve the phones and another 5 to go through the confirmation/activation process. Preorders are taken in 1 by 1 directly to Apple employees while walk-ins are let in in batches to wait in line. Took me from about 8am until 8:15 to get into the store and from about 8:15-8:30 to be happily walking out with my new phone.

Got in line at ~7:45AM, was out of the store by 8:25.

There were about 50 people in the pre-order line and more than 500 in the other line.

Deer Park, IL. store.

Picked mine up this morning. Got in the pre-order pickup line around 7:40. Got inside to get my phone around 8:20, took about 30 minutes to get it set up due to the slow network activating phones inside the store.

Yeah the Verizon activation app took a few minutes to work. I imagine this will get worse as the day goes on

Got my 128 GB Gold 6 Plus AT&T.

Arrived at 8:30 at Boylston St Boston - pickup line was about 40. Walkin line was about 500. Pickup line moved EXTREMELY FAST: about 10 people allowed in every 5 minutes. Walkins allowed 10 people every 20 minutes.

Once inside there was a second line of about 10 PPU customers. Waited in THAT line for 5 minutes.

I DID open the box in the store, in case of a cracked screen. But you don't have to - you DO have to have it activated. But that's nothing more than a barcode scan. FYI the Apple sales person said that it was the first 128 GB Gold 6+ he's ever seen.

Out by 9:20!

If Apple is reading this: the PPU on Launch is a great idea and I hope you do it in the future.
