Bay Street Emeryville was glorious. Walk-in was insane, preorder line was small and full of nice people. They let preorders in at 8am first, walk-ins had to watch us from the outside having a blast with plenty of walking space.

Thats interesting. When i walked to the front of the Atlanta store about an hour ago the apple employee pointed me to the back of a 2 hour pre-order line OR i can pick it up anytime within 5 days..... she didnt say anything about the 28th.

Employee at Grand Central told me I had to pick it up today or I wouldn't have it reserved, FWIW. That doesn't sound right though, does it?

Apple Store in Woodland Mall, Grand Rapids, MI.

I arrived an hour after store opening, no rushing or worries. In-store pickup was ready as I got an email from Apple the night before.

Big line winding around back and forth, then extending down the mall's hallway. I looked for the Reserveration Pickup Line.. I get in line.. 2nd in line! lol. Best experience ever.

I had to cancel my selected 2-year contract reservation and then repurchase with AT&T Next. Apple said to call 1800MYApple first just to verify the order was cancelled fully, but after 25 mins on hold, we decided just to cancel it via Apple.com. It wouldn't let me cancel it, so they cancelled it in the back for me. Proceeded with ATT Next, got it all done and paid for with Apple care, out the door I went, walking by the hot sweaty masses still waiting, unshaven and grumpy.

Was a great experience and learned along the way.

So it sounds like individual stores are making their own policies on pre-order expirations time frames

My Syracuse reservation clearly states that it is valid today only until close of store.

Is there a difference between a reservation and a pre-order?

I know apple has some reservation assigning system with a window of time for service (that i'm not that familiar with) but we are talking simply about pre-ordered phones that we chose to pick up in-store.

Do we need a reservation too?

I phone 6 64 Space Grey picked up at King of Prussia Pa this morning. Great experience, slept in and arrived 10:45 am. Long line in Mall for walk-ins, short line 10-12 for personal pick up. Went inside to demo table looked at both models, went back to short line. Ten minute wait, escorted back into store, got the 6 and the leather case, paid for it and went to setup table where another employee took me through the set-up including finger print scans. They had a 6 and a 6 plus in the front window side by side running videos, cool comparison with great displays on both. Left about 11:30 am. Returned home to finish Wifi set up and mail.

Sounds like the absolute perfect in store pickup experience :)

Has it been confirmed you can pickup anytime before the 28th? Might wait a day for the madness to die down if true...

Weird part is I saw this message the initial ready for pick up status changed. It said pick up before 9/28. Then it disappeared so I don't know.

Good to hear! I'll be heading there when I'm off work.

May I ask why you had to sign up for next? Or did you just want to?

Pick up was a snap

The system was SO much better this year (stanford shopping center, Palo Alto). Got there a little after 8:00 and there were 30 people in the preorder line ahead of me. The line moved quickly and I would have been in and out within about 20 minutes if I hadn't stuck around to enjoy the madness of a surprise visit from Tim Cook. Good day!

Does anyone know if we can just walk in an apple store and do something like a trade in, or buying something else without standing in the long lines (not buying an iphone 6)?

Just called Oakridge Apple store and the lady said the line is not long for pre order customers. Getting excited planning on heading there shortly!

Yes no problem. Although it might be a tad busy ;) but starting at 10:00 am my local Apple Store was open for "regular" business.

I arrived at the Walnut Creek store at 8:45. The entire process couldn't have been easier and it only took 10 minutes.

There was a sign for the pre-order line, but no one was in it so I asked the associate at the front of the walk-up line where I should go. She asked to see the email from Apple that indicated my phone is ready for pickup. Once she confirmed my receipt of the email she had me walk to another associate who retrieved the phone for me.

The only drawback was that they couldn't exchange my phone for a different color because the system they were using to process exchanges was down. When I pre-ordered my phone, silver was the only color available but I was hoping for space gray. The associate told me that I could come back tomorrow if I still want to exchange it.

Scanning the back of the box was all that was needed to activate the phone. I was given the option of using the Personal Setup in the store or doing it myself. I opted to do it myself at home, so I left the store with my phone still inside the shrink wrapped box.

Now that I have it at home, the Silver looks good enough to keep.

In store pickup was definitely the way to do it!

I decided for this phone I would try finding one in store.

I called around to various stores near my work with no luck this morning. After that I started to try areas near my apartment (40 minutes from work) and managed to find a Verizon in the mall with a few in stock. I immediately skipped out of work and drove the 40 minutes back home to the store. They had one 64gb Space Grey left. The sales associate was new so it took awhile. But got it and I'm set.

I guess I got a little lucky.
