Unfortunately my local store wasn't available and I wasn't willing to drive 90-100 minutes (mostly due to traffic) to pick it up.
They were probably already gone at that point... Tons of people in that area...Same for me. I live in the Washington DC area and NONE of the Apple stores were available for pick up. That was interesting to see...
Do you guys -really- think that in store pick up is going to go smoothly?
I pray for all of you.

Update on the "not the primary account holder" pickup issues.
Apple store clarified: if this is an upgrade on an existing line - then all you need is to be
- An authorized user on your wireless account
- Know the last 4 of the social on the account
- Know the billing ZIP
- Know your account password
- Have a state ID (not necessarily with address of account holder)
If this is a new line, then you need to have the more stringent secondary pieces of info like utility bills for the primary account holder, etc.
I know that preordered phones are set aside with your name on them when you come in to pick them up, but was wondering if this might be possible: I preordered a 6+ 16GB and would like to pickup (and pay the difference for) a 6+ 64GB instead. Do you think they'd be willing to do that for me if there is any stock available out of the walk-in allotment?
The 6+ is way backordered by now so reordering online is not really an option unless I want to wait a month or so. I could also just cancel the preorder and get in the walk-in line but that will be a bit of a crap shoot depending on how long the line is.
I figure the in-store pickup line will be shorter and I'll make it into the store quicker than going the walk-in route. Obviously if they are already out of stock of the larger 6+ when I get in, this is not going to work.
What do you think? Am I going to be outta luck trying this?

My order is now showing up on my Apple Store account.
Shows "Processing Items" with a "Pickup available: 9/19". Also gives me an option to cancel if I want to.
REALLY hope they have a separate line for preorders. Sounds like they will (going by previous experiences).
Thanks for that info. I will probably swing by my store this weekend to confirm.
I'm in NYC... I haven't gotten a pick up time. I just have a date at this point. The other poster was talking about the last time I did pre-order.I *think* the people getting pick up times are not in the USA...
This guy in the UK has a pickup time.

Hey guys, I don't know which is better. Reserve and pickup the phone on launch day or getting the phone delivered to your house on launch day. Are there any advantages and disadvantages?
I mean, what if my iPhone 6 gets delivered faulty for example? I can't take it to the store so that means I am screwed right?

Pros and cons to both.
You will see people with deliveries get their phone early in the morning, they will be happy. Others will not receive their phones until 7 or 8PM Friday evening, and possibly later. They will be pissed.
Some Apple stores will be a breeze, and others could be swamped.
You can always return it via FedEx or UPS. If there is an Apple store local, they will replace it as well.
obviously if you haven't ordered, you will be far delayed as far as november delivery. so yea, store pick up was a better option for me because i got lucky and one of the early orders to take advantage of it. the other option for me was to order, available for shipment 7-10 business days and Estimated delivery of 10/1 - 10/6. 😱
I think it's more exciting to have it delivered and track its progress from China to your house.
Personally I'd chose ship to home unless I didn't have a way to take the phone off the porch soon after delivery. Unfortunately, I had to get ship to store or I'd have a delay. Now it shows 3-4 week delivery but pickup in store 9/19. The stores are going to be a madhouse. I think Apple wants the big crowds to show the Apple faithful.
I wonder if a reserved phone is ever given away before the person who ordered it comes to get it? Hopefully rare if we're charged for it before 9/19. Does anyone know if they wait until you get there to put through the charge? I hope not. I've never picked up in store before. Always had it delivered.
