My order is now showing up on my Apple Store account.

Shows "Processing Items" with a "Pickup available: 9/19". Also gives me an option to cancel if I want to.

REALLY hope they have a separate line for preorders. Sounds like they will (going by previous experiences).

Unfortunately my local store wasn't available and I wasn't willing to drive 90-100 minutes (mostly due to traffic) to pick it up.

Same for me. I live in the Washington DC area and NONE of the Apple stores were available for pick up. That was interesting to see...

They were probably already gone at that point... Tons of people in that area...

Do you guys -really- think that in store pick up is going to go smoothly?

I pray for all of you.

if its a way for me to getting a hand on the device on launch date then yes. when i was ordering the 6+, i managed to login but when i was doing it around 3:40am, it was already semi backlogged. it was showing shipping date 7-10 days with anticipated delivery date of Oct 1-6. Thankfully 9/19 Pick up was an option.. so i did.

Now is it gonna be a cluster ****, maybe.. but i'm willing to to save 2 weeks of waiting.

Update on the "not the primary account holder" pickup issues.

Apple store clarified: if this is an upgrade on an existing line - then all you need is to be

  1. An authorized user on your wireless account
  2. Know the last 4 of the social on the account
  3. Know the billing ZIP
  4. Know your account password
  5. Have a state ID (not necessarily with address of account holder)

If this is a new line, then you need to have the more stringent secondary pieces of info like utility bills for the primary account holder, etc.

Thanks for that info. I will probably swing by my store this weekend to confirm.

Change storage size during pickup?

I know that preordered phones are set aside with your name on them when you come in to pick them up, but was wondering if this might be possible: I preordered a 6+ 16GB and would like to pickup (and pay the difference for) a 6+ 64GB instead. Do you think they'd be willing to do that for me if there is any stock available out of the walk-in allotment?

The 6+ is way backordered by now so reordering online is not really an option unless I want to wait a month or so. I could also just cancel the preorder and get in the walk-in line but that will be a bit of a crap shoot depending on how long the line is.

I figure the in-store pickup line will be shorter and I'll make it into the store quicker than going the walk-in route. Obviously if they are already out of stock of the larger 6+ when I get in, this is not going to work.

What do you think? Am I going to be outta luck trying this?

It depends on available inventory. But, yes they will allow it. They will cancel your 16GB order and sell you the 64GB Plus.

The only issue that you might have, is if you used a gift card to order. There can be a delay on the refund.

it all comes down to store availability but by the looks of it you're chances look pretty slim

Patridge Creek Mall pickup in Michigan

I went with in store pickup only because by the time I got into the Apple Store website the delivery times were 7-10 days. Like others, I just have the processing email. I needed to add another line so I couldn't use the iOS app. I used the IOS app last year to get my 5s and I was able to order at 3:01 (gold 64GB). Up until 5:30, couldn't get to sleep, took half an Ambien and woke up at 3PM(!) wondering where I was and not being sure I'd successfully ordered a phone! I guess Ambiens are strong.

It seems like it would take a while to get through the in-store pickup line because everyone has to show ID, maybe login to something to prove who they are, etc. and then have the phone activated. True it would be faster than just coming in, deciding on a phone, paying for it, activating it, etc. but still..

When I go into an Apple store, even in the middle of the day, I always have to wait because the staff are already working with looky-loos who can't decide what they want or if they want to buy at all. I wonder if there's third line for "people who are there but don't have anything to do with wanting an iPhone"? The poor schmo who comes in to pick up a new battery for his 17" 2008 MacBook Pro, for example. Maybe those people would just see the crowd/lines and leave.

Looks like I should take the day off again next Friday...or maybe I should just go right before closing time? Dunno.

Mine is popping up again too. I'm pretty confident things will go through as expected.

I am! Cannot wait for the 19th to roll around!!

Before I would get an error page on the Apple site but now I see it. Last year people were saying they were worried they'd hit the cancel button by mistake.
Which of the phones are in shortest supply this year?

Last year it was the gold in all storage sizes. This year I bet Apple made more gold than any other color.

I ordered at 3:30am, picking up on 9/19 at king of Prussia mall in PA, grey 6 Plus 128 gb
Showing on apple order as processing but showing 9/19 :)))

Hey guys, I don't know which is better. Reserve and pickup the phone on launch day or getting the phone delivered to your house on launch day. Are there any advantages and disadvantages?

I mean, what if my iPhone 6 gets delivered faulty for example? I can't take it to the store so that means I am screwed right?

Pros and cons to both.

You will see people with deliveries get their phone early in the morning, they will be happy. Others will not receive their phones until 7 or 8PM Friday evening, and possibly later. They will be pissed.

Some Apple stores will be a breeze, and others could be swamped.

You can always return it via FedEx or UPS. If there is an Apple store local, they will replace it as well.

obviously if you haven't ordered, you will be far delayed as far as november delivery. so yea, store pick up was a better option for me because i got lucky and one of the early orders to take advantage of it. the other option for me was to order, available for shipment 7-10 business days and Estimated delivery of 10/1 - 10/6.

Some people doing pick-up have reservation numbers, others have actual order numbers. I have an order number, acquired through the Apple Store App last night with pickup scheduled at the closest Apple Store. Based on my past experience with these launches, having an order number is basically a lock on the order. They should have one for you when you go in. I mve never done the reservation number thing, so I really don't know how that differs from having an actual order in hand.

Anyway, I'll be picking up a 128gig iPhone 6 Plus in Space Gray on ATT with my LONG grandfathered unlimited data plan intact. I have no doubt in my mind that it'll be there waiting for me on Friday when I go to pick it up.

Unlikely to be faulty. Delivery saves trip to store and waiting.

Personally I'd chose ship to home unless I didn't have a way to take the phone off the porch soon after delivery. Unfortunately, I had to get ship to store or I'd have a delay. Now it shows 3-4 week delivery but pickup in store 9/19. The stores are going to be a madhouse. I think Apple wants the big crowds to show the Apple faithful.

I wonder if a reserved phone is ever given away before the person who ordered it comes to get it? Hopefully rare if we're charged for it before 9/19. Does anyone know if they wait until you get there to put through the charge? I hope not. I've never picked up in store before. Always had it delivered.

I think it's more exciting to have it delivered and track its progress from China to your house.

I know I can always return it, but I'm still sort of screwed as I will have no phone for a while. At least in the retail store, they can see if my phone is faulty or not and give me a new one within minutes.

I reserved already, guaranteed launch day - have a time to pick it up between 1pm-2pm. I also ordered online, having "Preparing for dispatch" status but obviously need to call Apple to cancel if needed to be.

Lol, don't worry see above. :) Congrats though, you were lucky!

I agree. Wish they did it for store pick up people. Apple needs to make the shopping experience better. For example, if you custom order a new BMW, you're able to log on and track its progress. It's silly and unnecessary, but gives the customer a unique shopping experience.

I'm guessing the Ship to Store thing is exclusive to the US because I never saw that...

The stores will be a madhouse but I don't care as long as I get my phone as scheduled.

And lol, I hope a reserved phone DOESN'T get given away to someone waiting in line because that's 100% unfair. It's mine ready to be picked up. If I don't come in time, it's THEN they should give it away.

Haha, yeah that experience would be awesome but at the same time I want my phone in one peace. I'll be pissed if I gone all through that experience, ONLY to get a faulty phone.
