I'll be picking up my 64gig Space Gray 6 at the tax free Nashua NH store :D. I'll probably arrive around 8:30. My Amex has had a $1 pending since my order went through.

Interesting. My Chase Visa card shows no activity regarding my iPhone 6+ Apple in store pickup order..

Nope. Phone is shrink wrapped and just needs a call to activate.

I chatted with an online representative and she said that I would have to have them physically open the box in the store in order for the phone to be activated, and that I couldn't do it at home. I don't think she was giving me the most accurate information though, given what I've read here.

Rather odd. My 5 was picked up this way. I would think it would be this way because that's how verizon mails out their phones. They're shrink wrapped and just need an activation call.

Agreed, it did seem odd to me too. Anyone else know for sure if you can just have the phone's box scanned at the store without having to open it up, and just activate it at home?

I have the $1 authorization on my card as well. I assume since some of us have it, it has to do with the order?

It's a hold charge. A place holder for the actual purchase, which will clear on the 19th when they physically swipe your card and put the phone in your hand.

I hope that's the case. I'm trying to use the upgrade from another line on my account. If it's activated in the Apple Store that means I have to go to the AT&T store to get two new SIM cards instead of just switching the lines over the phone.

Last year when I bought a family member a new iphone all they did was scan the box and left the shrink wrap on the box for me to take home. This was at an att store though. I have never bought a phone from a apple store.

I'd like some clarification on this as well. I'd really rather activate it myself. Having bought every iPhone since the 1 on or around launch day I can say that Apple has had different policies around this over the years. I've activated at home, but I've also had the person at the store hastily do it before I could stop them. I've never been clear on what the actual policy is.

That is not true. They will charge your card prior to when you pick it up in the store, and they usually charge it when it's en-route to the store.

I hope that's not the case if simply because it means the line will move slower if they have to do that for everyone. It's a lot faster to check your cc and scan the phone and send you on your way.

I'm not sure that's correct (well in UK anyway). The email I received states that the phone is simply reserved for pick up in the store. If you don't collect it within your timeslot it goes back on the shelf for walk-ins. You can then chose any payment option when you get in store.

This was also confirmed by an apple store employee when I went in to ask.

I wasn't asked to insert any payment details/gift cards when ordering for instore pick up. I don't want to use the card associated with my iTunes account and will be paying for it using a mix of apple credit and another bank account card.

Just a quick question, I also order online and choose to pick up in store on 9/19 , they haven't charge me anything, not even that $1 dollar, is that normal? I am paying by a debit card and I am getting a T-mobile version from the apple store..this is my first time ever to pre order..

I believe that's normal for debit cards from what I've seen. It should charge you once it ships to the store.

Same thing for me but I paid with a credit card..

For my in store pickup, they have done a pre authorization hold of $1 on my credit card. You may want to call your financial institution just to give them a heads up that you made a large purchase and you want to make sure it will to through just fine when it is actually charged to prevent any potential order delays.
