Ugh, still wondering what the deal is with pre-order pickup at the 5th Ave one.

I've heard it is a mess there too. I'm heading back YET AGAIN after work, in hopes that the line will have died down. But in reality I'll probably just pick it up tomorrow. ******, but whatever. Better than having to wait a month.

Got to the Boylston store a little late. Around 8:15. Was 30th or so in the pre order line. I was out by around 945. Not bad. The non pre order line was nuts. Spanned multiple blocks. I'm glad I wasn't in that crap.

On a side note, the Plus is such a nice phone :)

I'm going to head over there after work. I'm hoping at that point they've got to be sold out of phones for the people just walking in trying to get one.

That was what I was hoping for this time around, but still no dice. I'm gunna head down around 4:30 and see what's good. Gotta be in Brooklyn by 6:30 so hopefully line is down to around an hour by then. Fingers crossed.

Did anyone have to pay a deposit when they picked up their phones?

I had pending authorize charges the last few days but then it was taken off earlier this morning. Called Apple said I already paid for the phone, but the pending charges were off, does that mean they charge you in the store when you swipe your card?

What if you had an order that still had pending charges, when they swipe your card in the store, does it apply to that pending charge or a new charge?

Also, how was your pickup experience? I already have mine preorder and got the email for pickup in store. They say bring ID and utility bill. I'm signing up as a new account.

Thank you

Is there a difference between a reservation and a pre-order?

I know apple has some reservation assigning system with a window of time for service (that i'm not that familiar with) but we are talking simply about pre-ordered phones that we chose to pick up in-store.

Do we need a reservation too?

An employee at the Grand Central store just clarified: reservations are only good until the end of the day, but pre-orders are held for 21 days. They said the pre-orders are individually tagged with your information and held in the back specifically for you. Not sure what the process is for reservations.

I picked mine up this morning, but I couldn't believe it! (never been to a product unveiling).

I have a small local Apple store in a mall and the "walk in" line was almost out of the mall! People had camped out all night!

There's no way they had the inventory for that... :(

Anyone dealt with the pre-order line at the downtown San Francisco store on Stockton?

Great experience at the Atlanta Perimeter Mall store. I arrived a little before 11 a.m. There were about 7 people ahead of me in line. Waited about 20 minutes and got my 6 regular space gray with 128GB with no problem. Was out of the store with activated phone in hand by 12. Couldn't have been easier.

My wife and I picked up our pre-orders (iPhone 6, Silver, 128GB, AT&T) this morning at opening. We got there at 7:40 a.m., and we were maybe about 40 people deep in line. The reservation line starts at the BART station opening on Stockton (look for the "Reservation" sign) and runs down Ellis. Doors opened at 8; we were in by about 8:20 and out by 8:40 after two pickups and case purchases. We didn't have to open our box to activate.

The no pre-order line this morning went up Stockton, wrapped along O'Farrell, down Powell, and ended by the garage on Ellis.

The Apple employee managing our line was very sure that pre-orders would move *a lot* faster than walk-ins, and it seemed like it did.

Well, I breezed into the Apple Store at Washington Square in Portland Oregon at 11:30am today. The walk-in line is by far the longest I've ever seen at an Apple launch. Ever. iPhone, iPad, iPod... I'm really surprised by the number of people there.

Luckily they have a separate line for people with in-store pickups and there were only four people in it. So I was in and out of the store in ten minutes.

Now, this is the interesting part. According to the sales guy I was the FIRST person to pick up OR buy an iPhone 6 Plus today at that location. According to him every phone they've sold so far today has been a 6. Personally I find that VERY hard to believe. I'm thinking he must have been talking about pre-orders and I heard him wrong, but even then that seems a little strange.

But whatever. That's my report from the field. Looks like a huge launch. The Apple guy told me that he thinks they have enough stock to satisfy the whole line. Looks like it's going to be a banner day for Apple all around.

Grand central store is insane. You'd think they would have their act together but it's a disaster. They should also regulate how many people are allowed in the actual store because you could barely move in there. Went on my way to work at 8 AM and they said two hour wait, went during lunch and they said three hour wait for preorder pickup. I'm fully expecting that the wait time will increase when I try going after work.

Wow. That long a wait for a pre-order pickup? Insane.

Here they're doing exactly what you're taking about. They're only letting in people who are actually being helped by Apple employees, so the store itself is pretty calm. The madhouse is outside where the massive line is.

Great, thanks for the report. Heading over there shortly.

Had the same experience, I'm thinking the line after work is going to be one of 2 ways. Either a complete and total mad house, or it will be emptied out. When I left after my lunch break (I was there for an hour and half), the preorder line in the tunnel was empty. I'm HOPING that this trend continues, but in all reality it will probably be worse later.

I may just end up coming back into the city tomorrow morning first thing and getting it then. Sucks though. Was really hoping to have it to take some videos at my grandma's surprise 80th party tonight.

Was the preorder line clearly marked?

I feel pretty fortunate, all things considered. New Verizon Wireless location in Dublin Ohio just opened probably in the last few weeks. I figured no one would know about it and I was (partially) right. I got there this morning at 7:15 (open time was 8:00) and I was #38 in line.

Groups of 10-15 at a time went in. Went smoothly. I was done with my trade in and boot up on my device, iCloud download of info, data and at my desk at work by 10:00.

Not bad.

I also asked if i would be guaranteed to get my preorder tonight if i waited on the line after work and they said the store closes at 9 regardless. So if you're still waiting for the preorder pickup when the store closes then you'll have to come back.
