I really like the composition of the bike photo and popping color contrasts of berries against leaves. thank you for sharing the pleasure!

I am a great believer in “best camera=one you have with you”. ipx helps me capture images of birds for example that would never pass “quality image” tests but help me identify the flighty bit that just did the touch and go at the feeder while I was surfing MR.

It doesn't let you modify the depth map / mask in and out because I think it's a lot more complex than that. I'm still holding out hope for an app that can manually fine tune edges and stuff, but if you take a photo in Focos and go into the "EFFECT" tab, pull the perspective slider around and see just how many layers of depth are available nowawadays. I believe when the 7 Plus launched they boasted being able to find 9 slices of depth - now it looks like hundreds and hundreds.
Look at this. TrueDepth is actually has more layer of depth map than rear facing camera.

A few shots from a trip to Milan this past weekend. No editing at all, straight off the phone. Except a resize in osx to make them fit here.

Beautiful photos. FYI, there’s a couple of very good image resizers for iOS (sub-$3 or usually free with ads), but if you haven’t used Workflow (now free since acquired by Apple), it’s an excellent automation app and makes resizing right in the photos or camera app incredibly simple (it does a lot more but the image features I find the most helpful)

Can you post how? It’s one of the most common things I need to do and lots of photo apps don’t seem to offer it

Sure, with the caveat we’re OOT with friends for Thanksgiving so my availability (and coherence ...) will be a little sketchy :D

First, if you haven’t, you’ll want to download Workflow:

Workflow by Apple https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/workflow/id915249334?mt=8

This was a 3rd party iOS app that was acquired by Apple, very slick, and the hope is that it will expand to include functionality normally reserved for Apple 1st party apps.

Once you get it, you can browse the gallery for image workflows and you’ll probably find a couple that work right out-of-the-box, but they’re easily tweaked (or built from scratch) to have some very specific behavior.

Not sure whether this looks great or weird. It feels like too much of the muffin is in focus, for the background so nearby to be so out of focus - the two clash. For the background to fall away so quickly you’d need a wide aperture and then some of the muffin would likely be blurred too

Do apps like focos and anamorphic apply a gradual blur based on distance? The standard portrait mode seems a bit binary

I’m in two minds. I’m happy portrait mode actually worked but it seems almost “too good” at the bokeh. I was less than a meter from the muffin though.

Fancy trying focos or anamorphic to see if you can get a more gradual effect? Might have a play over the weekend too

I don't know about all that. I just know that I'm really hungry after looking at that muffin. LOL
