iPhone X Pics Taken with iPhone X

How are you guys taking amazing photos like this? I love my X, but honestly I think the pictures it takes are butt.

They don’t ever come in focused and the low light photos are even worse.

It’s hit and miss for me as well. All the pictures I’m posting are portrait mode pictures because that’s all that I’ve been trying to use on my X for the bokeh. Portrait mode needs to be sorted out and come out of beta. It’s very un Apple like.

To increase your chances of good portrait mode shots use it in areas with lots of light.

Regular photos come out great on this phone to the point that it can replace a point and shoot. If only they could sort out portrait mode I would be willing to leave the dslr home more often.

Does this happen in regular photo mode? If so, you should take it to the Genius Bar and see about swapping the phone. I've read about some faulty cameras on some units. Read this thread. The OP has his wife's X to compare it to. Hers was fine. His did a horrible job. Apple swapped it and now he's happy.

It’s always about lighting imho.

This was taken from the camera roll, unedited...in portrait mode. I used the light from the streets b/c it was night time and I found an angle that worked.

My rule of thumb is if it looks good on the screen, it’s good to take.

Here is one from my iPhone 8 Plus (since it has the same wide optics and sensor as the X) in HDR mode. I turned off auto HDR, I want to be able to turn it on when I want it.

This. All my pics come out looking horrible and they look tragic taken indoors

Here's another I grabbed today. Focos is an absolute gem of a tool to have - I don't think I've been happier with an app in years.

I find that this photo even works at a significant crop, which seems to be rare with iPhone shots due to the noise reduction smearing and 12MP. Here it is massively reframed:

Thank you for the recommendation. I love this app, bought the pro version right after playing around with it for a bit. Snapped this while out drinking with a couple friends. The swirl bokeh effect really gives it a classic look, almost classic Voigtlander Nokton-esque.

Also the low light capability is night-and-day compared to my old 6s. The shot is really clean for a dim bar.
