My staff and I are on Ping as "Manga University."

We're a comic book publishing company in Tokyo. We have iTunes accounts in both the US store and the Japan store, so as we add our favorites, you should get a nice cross-section of music.

Follow us if you'd like!

I am "Dabbler InMusic" in Ping. I play the flute and compose my own little melodies. Followers are welcome.

Trying to keep this thread alive! Since it's the original!

I didnt see this thread till now, it is the OG!
I like most music, but I am a music snob. Mostly I listen to Rock & Roll(50's-modern garage rock) but I also like Hip-Hop and Reggae.
Here is a guide on how to get a link to your ping profile.

Ping needs to be revised if it is really gonna take off. It needs to share when you listen, rate, add a track to a iTunes, etc. Not when you buy or 'like' tracks in the iTunes music store. Its kind of a gimmick to drive traffic to the music store.

Thanks Turdferguson :) I hope you can help me keep this thread going!

And thankyou so much for the PM I can sort that in the morning when I get on the Laptop!

Dave Houston Belfast :)

One thing I'm finding to be stupid is that alot of people set their profiles to private. The whole reason why I search for friends is to see what music they listen to. How am I supposed to see what music they listen to if their profile is private?

That's crazy! Personally i keep my profile open. Music is for sharing :)

Sorry but I do not get this thread. Is it meant to help overcome Ping shortcomings (like the lack of FaceBook integration)?

I know what you guys mean. I think it's okay to have to be honest. How would you like it if you went to school the next day and the kids started to make fun of you for liking such and such band or artist? It's good for the teenagers anyway. I had lots of friends go through stuff like that, especially when it came to LiveJournal and Xanga back in the days.

But yes, sharing music is great!

Nice thread and initiative OP!
Just wanted to let you know due to my OCDP, that in your title there is an innocent mistake in that it should read friends not "freinds", since I think this thread is gonna be read a lot, is gonna be noticeable every time! Thanks!:)

People used to make fun of some of my music tastes :). I happen to have a soft spot for 80's Ballads and Yacht Rock. My roomate used to laugh because i knew the words to Every Air Supply song. But good music is good music :)

I think the service in general is struggling to much outside "mass music". The artist suggestions for me are sub par ( considerably worse then the genius playlists, at least that finds music )

I listen to Classical, Christian Contemporary and Opera. You would think it would suggest following the London Philharmonic or something.

The people it suggests i follow, also do not seem to correlate. Ah well I am sure it will get better, but perhaps not for me.

that's prob cos there's hardly any artists set up on it yet, so everyone gets mostly the same suggestions. once more artists appear on it, the more likely the suggestions will improve. the London Philharmonic aren't on there yet...

Personally I find PING pretty useless - and even more so as a social networking service.

Other than accessing via the iPhone - you have to have an application open - itunes. No thanks.

And most of the people I would have in my Ping network I already am friends with on Facebook and Twitter. They post what music they like or are listening to and that stuff.

I already find checking more than one social networking site annoying and time consuming beyond that which I would bother (often opting to only check twitter once or twice a week).

so does accessing twitter or facebook, all use applications, like browsers or tweetdeck, etc, so really, thats moot.

It's not moot. I typically have my browser open at all times. I don't need or want another app running and to have to switch to it.

Then again - I don't really use iTunes that often except to sync - so perhaps I'm the wrong demographic.

Perhaps when/if iTunes moves to the cloud this PING will make more sense.

Either way - I'm still not currently interested as indicated above because I really don't need yet another social networking site to check/participate in.
