Other than accessing via the iPhone - you have to have an application open - itunes. No thanks.

It's not moot. I typically have my browser open at all times. I don't need or want another app running and to have to switch to it.

Then again - I don't really use iTunes that often except to sync - so perhaps I'm the wrong demographic.

Perhaps when/if iTunes moves to the cloud this PING will make more sense.

Either way - I'm still not currently interested as indicated above because I really don't need yet another social networking site to check/participate in.

i was right as you specifically said "you have to have an application open for it". not "I have to have an application open for it". you were generalising and it is still a technically valid point as you only generally stated about having an app open. again, it's no different to having tweetdeck open for twitter.

now you have been more specific, that's fair enough, but me, and alot of people i know, have itunes open all the time, mostly so we can play music whilst browsing, or chilling, so really, no extra hassle.

plus how does itunes going to the cloud mean ping will make more sense? most iPhone people use iTunes for a music library, ping integrated into iTunes. what it needs is to pick up on music that you have that's not bought thru them and it would be a step in the right direction.

Ping via the cloud means it's browser based and then doesn't rely on an app to be installed on your computer.

And I have to laugh because no matter what - you have to be right with your assertions. I didn't say anything new in the 2nd post. And I still believe the point is not moot. Twitter and all web based apps do not require a unique application to be run or installed. It's browser based. Tweetdeck is yes, another app. But I don't HAVE to use tweetdeck, do I? I can access everything on twitter from my browser.

Point is/was - that Ping is too niche (for me) as it exists today.

but iTunes via the cloud would still have to be based off the app being installed on your machine to see your library for it to be any decent. most people that have an iPhone have iTunes, so really the market is already there ready to go, it just needs to gain more artisits, a few months down the line and it should be more widespread.

my point is that people will have dedicated apps for stuff like this, that's why tweetdeck has done so well, it's a more relevant interface for the service. ping is better served being integrated into iTunes as it goes off what you have bought via iTunes, hopefully this will be stepped up by expanding to the whole library of music you have either imported from CD's/Vinyl/Tapes or whatnot.

in your second post you added info you didn't include in the first post clarifying your point, which if you had said in the first post, i wouldn't have even made mine.

you don't have to use tweetdeck, for that matter you don't have to use Ping, some of use wished you didn't use the internet either for that matter!! lol

you'll never agree the point is moot as you have a superiority complex, so i will leave it there as i have no desire to have a long drawn out debate with you.

1) you're under the assumption that people will always have all their music stored locally. And I disagree - a web-based app could be every bit as good. I've seen GREAT cloud based computing. Maybe you haven't and are limited by what you've experience. And having music stored locally - that might not always be the case. Whether purchased or not - it's very possible that everyone's music might be stored in the cloud making it accessible wherever you go and with whatever device. So iTunes can most definitely be 100 percent cloud based.

2) In this case I am "superior" and I'll explain why. I stated an opinion - my opinion which included the fact that you needed an additional app opened for PING. That's 100 percent correct both in fact and in my personal use case. And you, Andy, can't tell me my opinion nor my personal use case is incorrect. You tried to dismiss the point as moot. And it isn't. It's 100 percent relevant to my use case.

So yes - you are right - I will not ever agree that the point is moot. And the debate can end here because we both know neither of us can/will change the other's opinion on this.

so does accessing twitter or facebook, all use applications, like browsers or tweetdeck, etc, so really, thats moot.

i've re-quoted to just point out what i said of yours was moot, your original point was that you have to have an application open to use Ping, i said to access facebook and twitter you need an application open therefore that point was moot. you then changed your comment after personalising it to you and what you do. your point after that isn't moot as it's personal to you, i never denied that, you just kept saying i was wrong, even tho i was right about your original point. otherwise thats it for me

when Steve Job's demoed Ping there was a bit about Gigs, i can't see that anywhere at the moment, went to an artists page who has a gig coming up, nothing on there like what was demoed. any help? is this a US only thing?

Ping showed me a free new single from Eric Clapton and a free music video from Jack Johnson. Without Ping I wouldn't have known about either, so I definitely like that.

Still needs more artists to use it, but right now I'm finding myself actually using it, so that's good. They need to put the focus on following artists, and not just random people. Try not to call it a social network because no one, NO ONE wants another social network.

That would be the Concerts section which can be found on profiles via the iOS version. If you go to an Artist's page. it's on the right side (in the iTunes desktop version).

I'm liking the new iTunes Library integration, you just have to make sure your tags are right or it doesn't let you post it. It doesn't let you add anything that's not in the iTunes Store in your country.

And yeah, I posted all the features I want on my blog. I'm hoping for themes, RSS feeds, radio, listening parties, label pages that integrate all their artist's stuff, groups, street teams, among other things.

I am on Ping and I like the idea. However at present it is very difficult to find people you know who always might be using the service. Until then my page is just one in the wind...

It has a lot of potential though.
