Just observations. Standing in line for something just to have it on day 1 is something I did in high school or college. As an adult I can't think there is anything that would be a bigger waste of my time. Let alone waste my vacation time to take off for such a materialistic reason.

How do you "observe" people's motivations?

There won't be a preorder. Get in line, and early at that.

Actually it's not. You couldn't pre order the iPhone 5s and 5c like you could the 5.

i went to verizon store afternoon on launch day, walked out with my 5s in like 30 mins. is not that big of a deal guys

Depends.

If it's a larger screen I'll try to pre-order from Apple. If that doesn't work I'll probably line up at the AT&T store around 4am on launch day.

If it's not a larger screen I'll probably just hold onto my 5 indefinitely.

I have two IP5's one black and one white that I want to trade in. Apple today is offering $5 more than AT&T. So is it best to order online w/Apple then just walk in the store when it available? How does that work?

To me, its a phone, something to make calls, run some apps text people, nothing more. I don't get caught up in the hype of waiting in line. So much so, that if my pre-order/order does not ship on launch day, I'll not lose any sleep over it.

ok but what are you doing here? haha

Just make another thread on how you don't wait in line

bye :)

1. Pre order if possible.
2. Track bestbuy inventory then drive as fast as possible lol.

im not sure if verizon lets you do this, but my contract is up on the 23rd, and i plan to pre order as soon as its possible. then i will go wait at the apple store on launch day, walk in with my reservation card, and pick up my 64gb space gray iPhone 6. i guess i should look into verizon's upgrade loopholes, to see if i can upgrade a few days early, and just add 2 years onto my contract.

This is what you do...

Set an alarm for when preorders open (Last launch was 2am for me). Pull up apple.com on your PC and the Apple Store App at the same time. Then keep trying to get the preorder through on both devices. In my experience the App is faster.

Preorder your device, go to bed and enjoy your new iPhone shipped to your doorstep on launch day.

If Apple does preorders this year. I'm assuming they will, but they don't always.

There's a certain excitement in lining up to buy a new phone at the store; I've done it twice (iPhone 3G and 3GS) but then started switching back and forth between iPhone and Android devices and haven't bought another phone on launch day.

I debated potentially lining up for the 6 at my local AT&T store, but like I said I'm torn about which size I'm going to get based on whether the features are different, so I am likely to end up waiting. If I have a clear idea of which phone I'll want beforehand, I may line up again just for the hell of it. My wife wants the 5.5" so maybe we'll both line up this year.

There is no excitement to wait in line at 1am and end up with no phone. Just pre order online and wander in.

Whatever you do, don't wait to order if you want the phone. I waited a few days for the iPhone 5 telling myself that my 4 was good enough, and when I finally decided to do it, I had to wait over a month to even place my order.

Standing in line is actually fun. I've done it for the launch of the iPad 3 and iPad Mini Retina, and folks were really excited. And no, I'm not a superficial person with nothing else better to do (as some of the douche-bags in this thread claim), I just really wanted to go to the store and pick it up. It makes me feel like a kid at Christmas again (simple pleasures).

I may be in trouble as my contract isn't up until October. If I can't preorder because of my contract, then I'm probably gonna be waiting a while once again to pick up the 6 :(

Standing in line in order to pay retail for something is what people did in the Soviet Union and other East-bloc states. Why on earth someone would endure such menace in order to pay full price for something that will be produced in hundreds of millions is borderline insanity, if you ask me.

I'll just look online which carrier/retailer has the best price, go clickety click and wait for the nice lady driving our local post van to bring it to me.

What a drama queen. Honestly, the holier than thou attitudes some of you are displaying in this thread are pretty ugly. Just waiting for someone to compare waiting in line for an iPhone to waiting in line at a Nazi concentration camp at this point.

No drama. Just seems utterly stupid to stand in line for hours instead of just going click-click on a website and getting the phone delivered to your doorstep. Not to mention that the price is usually always lower online, at least over here.

Due to previously being sent faulty phones through the mail, I'm buying in person this time and inspecting my phone for loose buttons/scratches etc before I leave the store...

Pre-order from AT&T for delivery on release day like last year.

After their debacle 3 years ago, I will never pre-order from AT&T again. They oversold and refused to allow pre-orders to cancel, even though they had not even processed the order. It took me at least 2 weeks of calling every day to cancel the pre-order and I bought it at the Apple store instead.

As for Apple, I pre-ordered a 64GB 2 years ago and they sent me a 32GB. To top it off, it was locked to someone else's phone number. Although it arrived at before 10AM, it was a paperweight until 2:30PM that day.

Last year, I waited in line and because I wasn't in the first 20, only Space Grey was available.

May end up pre-ordering from Apple again this year if I don't have time to wait in line...

But you'll order it early enough that it might ship on launch day?

Ill be ordering from Apple as always. Easy, painless. I wouldn't order from the carrier websites or stores, they never seem to get it right or get enough stock. Just use Apple and make it easy.

You can't order from apple if your paying full retail while on verizon. It wants you to renew a contact.
