Or maybe people have enough vacation and leisure time to spend three or four hours frivolously once a year?

People in this thread are acting like you're wasting your life away by standing in line for one morning out of 365. Geeez.

I have the time, though I'm sure I'll preorder.

Wasting our lives away? That's the great thing about free choice.

Don't be rude there are definitely reasons to want one as soon as possible ie until I get mine this will be my only lifeline to contact my parents across the continent. http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-GoPhone-Prepaid-Samsung-A107-Cell-Phone-Silver/15421486

No plan. I'll probably wait till I can walk into the local AT&T shop and score a gold 32gb model.

That should be sometime in october I wager.

I'm lining up on launch day.

I have an Apple Store conveniently located 15mins away, and I live in a relatively small town (Buffalo NY), so shouldn't have too much of a line. Hopefully they do a midnight release.

I mean, hey, I'm still a high schooler and it's just the start of the year.

Oh hey, fellow Buffalonian! I go to UB actually, so I'll be lining up as well! Should host a Buffalo meet-up :)

Just wondering, have you done any previous years?

I haven't done any previous launch-day releases. I got my other Apple devices through web order, but I'd really like to get an iPhone 6 at launch for the sake of excitement.

I wonder if the Walden Galleria Apple Store will even have a launch-day event...somehow I doubt it, but I'm hoping.

I know it's still early, but I was wondering if folks had thought of plans for best securing an iPhone 6 on launch day? Couldn't find an existing thread on this, please let me know if there is...

I remember getting the iPhone 5 two years ago was a pain. I opted to preordering from AT&T and there was a lot of confusion with when the ship date was and such, and I ended up recieving the phone several days after launch. That year, it turned out that many people had better lunch preordering from stores such as Target, Best Buy, and Radio Shack. Those folks, if I remember correctly, got theirs on lauch day or the day after.

So for the iPhone 5s, my friend decided to preorder from Target. Guess what? They never even recieved shipments of the phones until weeks after launch day. Not sure how preorders from other stores turned out.

I've also heard some people having luck just lining up at Apple stores and recieving the cards for which phones are in stock. But this just seems like a pain because you need to get there early, and they may not even have the phone configuration you want.

So, what are the plans as of now for the best way to get the new iPhone on launch day? Preferably via preordering.

I'm lining up with a my trusty chopping axe and my machete for back up. :p

I don't plan on buying a new iPhone on launch day. I'm just not willing to get up early and wait in line. Also, I want to be able to compare the 4.7 and 5.5 models, and it's been mentioned that the larger phone might be delayed.

The trade off of being an early adopter is the risk of small issues and bugs. I'll wait a few months to let those be worked out, if any exist.

I'm not getting an iPhone 6, but I think it's smart to say that the easiest way to get what you really want is to preorder. And maybe wait to see which size iPhone you REALLY want.

:)

I camped out at the mall overnight to get my iPhone 6 in 2012 so I had it just after the doors opened then swapped it for a 32 GB version a few weeks later. That ended up moving my eligibility date so I won't be able to get one at the discounted price if it's released in September. That's ok though. I haven't decided on what size I want so I'm going to check out the reviews and compare them in person first.

Many seemed to be mentioning pre-orders. As you recall, there were pre-orders for the 5s, only the 5c. If there's no pre-orders, then what?

If there isn't a pre-order, your best bet is to get to an Apple store as early as possible, as they will have the best stock. From past experiences, the lowest gigabyte black model is usually the most well stocked.

It all depends on where you live though. i've heard of some people having luck at Walmart after midnight, others at Best Buy or target. for the 5S and five I did Apple Store two hours prior to opening and it worked out fine.

Expectations are there will be massive shortages for months on end such is the pent-up demand. So if you really don't want to wait months to get your hands on an iPhone 6, I'd start making plans to get in on those long launch day lines outside Apple stores.

Personally, I'll handle this launch like I did the 5s launch. I strolled by an Apple Store at a local mall and the line was only about 20 minutes long. I said, "What the heck" and queued up, making it the first time I ever stood in an Apple line.

I don't mind waiting a week or so to get the iPhone 6 because I really want to read the hands-on reports by average users before jumping on board. My 5s is flawless right now and I also have a Nokia Lumia Icon as a backup/tradeoff device.

You cheating on eiC, Rambo? :D

Anyone know why they didn't have pre-orders last time? And the chances of them having pre-orders this time?

So, how do you like it? You could really clear up a lot of rumors. Are the bezels smaller? What's the resolution? One-handed use or not?

Guess I'm already thinking about the 6 :) That was for the iPhone 5. It was an interesting experience. I believe it was the first time that I've ever gone all night without sleeping. I like the size of the current iPhone so I'm leaning towards the 4.7". But I'll wait keep and open mind and check them out after the release. Won't wait to long though. That will push my upgrade date out even further in years to come.
