To be safe, you always shut do a full restore (I even like to DFU mode, but probably not necessary) before jailbreaking. Just ensures you have a "clean" system.

You don't want to screw things up and have to restore only to find you can't restore to 6.1, but 6.1.1 or an update that patched the jailbreak.

Is it okay to restore from backup or do you go by the theory to set up as new?

Minor updates you can restore from backups but major you should set up as new. So if you are already on 6.0x you can restore.

But why is everyone so keen to update?

I will wait until I have a JB before updating.

Should we make a backup copy of the ipsw file for any reason after downloading it on itunes?

I've been using this phone for barely 2 months, what can possibly go wrong during JB without a full restore?

Perhaps they just want to know exactly what to do once it gets here without having to wast time trying to figure out what to do?

Where can we find detailed 6.1 patch notes? I'd like to know exactly what were getting, usually Apples site only shows the meat and potatoes...

Until everything has been tested no one can be certain. Once everything has been tested then full instructions will, I'm sure, be posted on the blog.

I'm still on 6.0. what's the best way to go about this? Itunes backup, itunes update, then itunes restore from backup?

My update time went from 45 minutes to 94 minutes -______-

Wow, weird? I just downloaded 6.1 for my iPhone and iPad and it downloaded in 4 minutes.

Maybe crappy internetz :D

I wouldn't worry, you will be updated and all set by today anyways.

i did not OTA update but i have a question about it. If you do OTA update can you then just update via itunes to undo whatever shsh blobs are created thru the OTA?

UGH, I did OTA 6.1 update. FAIL on my behalf. Hopefully the jailbreak still works on it.

The first time I ever tried to jailbreak it didn't work the reason was because I updated from 5.01 to 5.1.1 OTA. I had to set my phone up as a new phone

So when people are saying restore in iTunes...we should do a full phone restore, rather than just update to 6.1 via iTunes? Hmm....

"In terms of code, we have two proof of concepts that we need to merge and polish, so we will not be ready to release until that and testing."

Seems it won't be a 0 day release.:(
