I went for a short drive down the road to Faversham the other day, home of Shepherd Neame Brewers and picked up a few bottles of rather nice ale at their merchandise shop.

I love Bishops Finger!

if you want to really get your taste buds working, try out this white beer from Canada called Blanche de Chambly by Unibroue, the Unibroue line is one of the most famous Canadian beer lines in the world, but not that popular outside of beer connoisseurs.

Buy from Unibroue just for the name alone.

I like the Fin du Monde a lot and Maudite was pretty good too. Careful, the alcohol sneaks up on you.

So after reading this thread I picked up some Black Sheep this weekend, can't wait for passover to be done...

I noticed this.. before I ever tried Blanche de Chambly, I had tried Maudite and La fin on occasion, was disgusted by it each time, never drank it again. But 2 years after I became a big fan of Blanche de Chambly, I gave a mixer pack a try, which included said detested beers, and I actually really enjoyed it, and yeah.. the alcohol does sneak up on you, you can really feel it!

If you are on the West Coast, the Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon produces some of the very finest English and Scottish Stouts found anywhere in America. They carry the full line-up:

Mirrorpond Pale Ale
Bachelor Bitter, ESB
Inversion India Pale Ale
Cascade Ale
Obsidian Stout
Black Butte Porter

These are truly 'honest ales'. They have less carbonation than most offerings and alcohol range between 5.0% to 7.5% (Porter).

Ok so i rarely drink any beer, but i tried a new beer and it was great! If you love coffee and you love beer, you should try it...It's brewed with chocolate malts, and smells like chocolate, BUT it tastes like coffee...and its so smooth...if you are into trying new things, give it a shot...its called Mackeson Triple Stout

Bishops Finger (Agreed Any Sheperds Neame)

Hens Tooth

Any Theakstons

Any Black Sheep

Agree Fullers, Youngs, Bass,

One of the reasons why British Beer is so good is that CAMRA was formed in the early 70's when real beer and ale was just about to be wiped out by the large brewers. Thankfully they and good taste prevailed and you will find great Beer anywhere in Britain.

Don't be taken in by the likes of Boddingtons and Kilkenny (OK irish) which are average beers masquerading as good Beers. This is what we would all be drinking if it wasn't for Michael Jackson(aka The Beer Hunter who sadly died last August)and CAMRA

As far as nationally available beers, I say Blue Moon FTW. But if you're a Michgander (or ever visiting), my favorite microbrews are Arbor Brewing Company, Bell's, and Founder's.

Guinness and Corona, both excellent beers. I can only drink Corona if it's got a lime slice in it though.

Sorry dude, but Corona is not a good beer!

It's a cheap-ass Mexican export sold to yuppies in the 80s by the 'sophisticated' addition of a lime. The stuff is undrinkable if it's not served ice-cold with the lime (both the cold and the lime mask its taste fortunately).

Here's my favorite:

anchor_bottle.jpg

One of the earliest craft-brewed beers in the USA in the modern microbrewery revolution and still one of the very best beers bottled in the USA. :)

Samuel Jackson beer.

It's good motherf*cking beer! It'll get you drunk! You'll be f*cking fat chicks in no time!!

Mmm Mmm b*tch!!

inspired:D

This is another Shepherd Neame advert. Very funny but it was banned last year and the reslting publicity made the national press and probably resulted in millions of pounds of free extra advertising.

A Shepherd Neame spokesperson said today the ale's advertising campaign was designed to amuse, not offend.
"The campaign is born out of Shepherd Neame's Kentish heritage and evokes the spirit of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The beer takes its name from finger-shaped signposts, which guided pilgrims on their way to Canterbury."

This is the campaign they ended up going with
Bishops Finger is a beautiful beer and one of my absolute favourites and I love the cheeky, saucy, non PC ads. Its very British ribald bawdy humour...Incidentally most women I know including my wife found them hysterical.
