Somebody posted yesterday a tweet from pimpkeks that we are about a week away. So I doubt very much today. Sunday probably the soonest. Even that's a long shot a this point.

Who's pimpkeks? Don't recognize him as a dev team member.

He is on Team Chronic and is supposed to be working on the final part. I know he is a 3rd part Dev and works on chronic.

I agree with Bradl

For the 4S
If you need to unlock stay as low as you can on BB.

Stay on 5.0 if still there.

Stay on 5.01 9A405 if there

Downgrade to 5.01 9A405 if on 9A406!

For non-unlockers, 5.01 405 or 406 is fine, it will give you the earliest JB. You can stay on 5.0 as well, but why should you?

The mentioned twitter is indeed a question of a non-dev.

Again the iclarified article:
http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=19408

Stay with the trusted sources; the devs, iclariefied etc.

You are right 5.0 if you want to unlock but my intial post was in regards to the jailbreak. It seemed like people were freaking out over whether to upgrade to 06.

According to most websites 06 didn't improve battery at all but was a baseband update that helped resolve a "sim not inserted" issue for international 4s users.

I'm just going to sit back and tune out and wait. Every person who's been working on this seems to have a different presumed ETA ranging from "any minute now" to "maybe a week if we're lucky".

They really need to choose one party for detailing ETA and progress, should they even wish to reveal these details at all!

I should have stayed with the skyrocket and not exchange it for the 4s till the jailbreak was done.

As good as the iPhone is, as good looking and esthetically pleasing as it is, it is pretty much worthless without the jailbreak.

Not having my calendar/todo where i can see it easily has been the biggest hassle and the biggest thing i miss from android aside from tethering.

While everyone is waiting, is there some app that I could use to remotely monitor the dev team blog or twitter feeds? I want something that would send a notification to the app on my iPhone if there is an update, instead of manually checking the websites or twitter. I thought Boxcar could do this from it's description, but it doesn't like the dev team's RSS feed and it isn't updating the tweets I told it to follow.

Its funny we haven't seen Snowwhite post recently. According to his "inside word" the jailbreak will be out today. I guess he/she realized his/her guess was wrong.

Wasnt a guess i was told that but as stated last night they are making a whole new tool, but when josh said that he presumed that redsn0w would have been used, but they have came across a way to jailbreak without the need of a computer explaing why @pimskeks (Nikias) who by the way has been a member of the dev for a long time is creating it. As stated before i have proved all i need to, even pod2g got the ETA wrong.

Purchase Directly from Apple

I totally understand jailbreaking as I'm currently waiting myself but for unlocks.........

Couldn't you have just purchased the iphone 4 or 4s unlocked from apple.

They made that option available almost immediately after release.

I think that would definitely remove most issues with wanting a truly universal phone or am I missing something

For unlock purposes yes. But for jailbreak purposes, you can't "purchase" a jailbroken phone from Apple.

Apples sells them unlocked - for an extra $600...

I wouldn't call that a favorable option over just unlocking your phone via a hack...

I'm not gonna doubt you, snowwhite, if for no other reason than your info gives me hope...lol. Maybe that's misplaced, but hey, it's fun nonetheless! :D

I definitely hope you're right about being able to jailbreak without the need of a computer...that would be amazing.

Well, that would depend on what kind of deal you can get, wouldn't it? You have to look at the total cost over the full two years. Just looking at initial purchase price is exactly what the carriers want you to do, it's how they get you hooked.

That's not quite the whole truth now is it.

Always look at TOTAL cost of ownership.

Exactly. You are then forced into either paying your carrier an ETF of hunreds of dollars, or are contracted into paying them at least $45 a month for 24 months anyways ...

So don't worry, either way you're splurging hundreds of dollars over the course of the life of the phone. It just depends if you want it up front or not.

As I stated I UNDERSTAND jailbreaking. It was more for the unlocking purposes.

Why rely on a software based unlock that doesn't get updated often as we can see with with the iphone 4 not receiving an unlock after two years.

That's what I tried with Boxcar but it doesn't like the dev feed. And since I have yet to receive any notifications on the twitter feeds it's watching (that have been updated), Boxcar is a bust.

I watch RSS feeds when I go into google reader, but I want to avoid that. What I want is something that will push a notification to the iPhone when one of the specified feeds/tweets is updated. I don't want to be manually logging in and looking at them frequently.

I think the JB window could be very narrow this time around, so I want to react as quickly as possible before the signing window closes.

Lol! Iff pims can make a tool that can be easily used thas whats happening iff not itl be a joint tool unless otherwise agreed differently

I honesty don't care if you need a computer or not... It takes 2 minutes anyway. If you can't use those simple tools you shouldn't jailbreak your phone.

Maybe how it works for the US?

Here in the UK if you bring your own phone to a network the "SIM Only" contracts are much cheaper (given the same minutes/text/data)

Yeah I don't see a difference of needing a computer to jailbreak or not. I mean either way it take 2 mins. I would rather them just put it in redsnow and we could have had it already then build a whole new app that really doesn't make it a whole lot easier. Plus that would give us more time to play around with the JB before 5.1 comes out....as the days pass its just more of a chance that apple will release 5.1 and we will have no wiggle room at all

I agree the wiggle room is a must in my eyes otherwise there will be a full forum of Help iv upgraded to 5.1 can i jailbreak threads

Are you noticing better battery life after the restore as "new"

I certainly did. I noticed that when I used a backup after the restore the battery life was bad. Restoring as "New" helped out a lot.

I'm not GRIPING about having to use a computer to jailbreak. I'm simply saying it would be awesome to be able to do it wherever you are (ala jailbreakme.com). Just an observation.
