Q? I know it's probably been asked, but...

When this long awaited JB is released, will i be able to use it? here's why i ask, I bought an iPhone 4S off of craigslist for $300. It's a Verizon 16 GB. My daughter (who works for T-Mobile) placed me on her account (unlimited for $20 a mo.) Now, when i got this iPhone I checked online and found a video where the author claim to have been able to "Unlock" iPhone involving a trick where you swap sims in this glitchy window of time. Anyway, i tried it and of course, no luck :mad: My question is, since it's a verizon iPhone (i'm not a customer) will i be able to get past the "activation" once it's JB'ed? 94A06 was only if you updated your phone through iTunes not over the air.

Not sure if Mexico got it or not but I have seen people confused about this before.

94A06 was actually released a few days after 94A05. So even if you updated through iTunes, it's possible you have 94A05.

Best way to know for sure is just to check your iDevice ;)

Right now there are no guarantees of a functioning unlock for the 4S. It's rumored that if the 4S stays on 5.0 then it maybe will be unlocked once it's jailbroken. You would have to ensure that it remains on 5.0 through the resale process though.

I saw the same video. It was proven to be just that a glitch. The phone would showing t-mobile but wouldn't be able to make a call and would require a restart. After the restart the phone would go back to showing AT&T.

Thanks DWalls90, is there anyway I can check whether it's 5.0? (remember, it's never been past the activation screen) P.S. I bought it November, if that makes any difference

Yeah i meant the only way to get 94A06 is through itunes or it was when i updated to 94A05 and i specifically did OTA to make sure i got 05.

06 i dont believe ever made it to OTA or they finally changed it but yeah this discussion has been beaten to death about how to avoid 06 and get 05 but Apple may have eventually changed that and made it so no matter how you update you end up on 06.

I am certainly on 94A05 even after Apple released 94A06 ;).

Or the better question would be can you donate to all of them ?

MAN ON A LEDGE is a GREAT damn movie. I STRONGLY recommend it. Just got back from a screening.

Latest build for ipad wifi is 9A405. Latest build for iPhone 4S is 9A406. If the jailbreak works for both iPad2 and iPhone 4S, what difference does it make which build you are on? How can the jb work for the ipad on 405, but not for an iphone on 405?

I'm confused. My 4S is updated to 5.0.1 build 9A405. How do others have 9A406? Does that mean I won't be able to JB?
 
The way i look at it pod originally said a few days about 2 weeks ago....going on that 'less than a week' should mean a month...I am taking a break, you guys won't see me till maybe tomorrow or later tonight LOL :rolleyes: again i realize they doing this for us but i would have never been refreshing day after day if pod didn't say a few days now, twice.....i had no issue waiting from release date till December.
 
I think the bigger confusion now is which version of 5.01 people should be on lol.

5.0 is supposed to be jail broken and unlocked

5.01 of any flavor should have been fine also but now a new tweet says latest version and that means 94A06 and was specified when asked.

iPad 2 is only 94A05 but apparently that is no longer good enough for the iPhone and only the iPad ....

I swear these tweets are more like riddles

Wait what tweet are you reading that we need 94A06? Why would 94A05 not be able to be jailbroken if only difference is baseband?

I don't think you can even install 06 if you already have 05 installed....does anyone know....please tell me what tweet says we need 06 to jailbreak
 
I was concerned this might induce panic when i typed that up but a page or so back you can see someone quoted a developer stating should we be on 05 or 06 and the dev responded the latest !!

Well that is 06.

I am confused at this point frankly even though they should be the same

Are we rolling the proverbial dice staying on 05 ? Heck if I know

Well I'm downloading 06 now, i guess i should be able to do a shift restore and install 06...gonna try that now Can you point out the post please?

Thats exactly what I am wondering. I am download the ispw now and think i can do a shift+restore and choose the 9A406 I downloaded, ill let you know...but i don't understand because as far as i knew both versions were fine for the jail brake....i don't know who said they weren't. Does anyone know for sure?
 
Went ahead and did a restore to 06 + set up as new phone to clear any problems at all. I'm so ready for the jailbreak already...

That was a random developer NOT associated with the jailbreak. More importantly he ASKED whether we should update or not. I think people are just becoming looney at this point.

Planetbeing,Pod2g,Musclenerd,P0sixninja,Macrumors,cultofmac,My cat,and EVERYONE has been saying 5.0.1 is the version you want to be on for jailbreak.

Stop splitting hairs asking whether you need 05 or 06. They are the same Damn firmware there was only a very MINISCULE DIFFERENCE.

I will admit I've become addicted to these posts in the past few weeks but some of you guys are going overboard splitting and borderline paranoid with unwarranted worries and concerns. None of us have the answers just follow what the key players are saying and wait.

Ok good and I apologize for any confusion I was only quoting what I read and yes clearly things are getting blow way out of proportion

I thought they were the same damn thing
