Verizon is consistent in this area around 1Mbps up and down. If, god fobid, I go into the center of the city, I'm stuck with sub 500Kbps speeds.

Guess it's just me. The numbers look better than 1Mbps....

2 out of those numbers are close to 1Mbps. Then you have a .35, .65.

Then the rest of the numbers are twice as fast as 1Mbps!

I'm not complaining about those dude. I'm complaining about having zones in the city where data comes to a complete crawl. When I'm at home, 3G speeds are great, but I've got WIFI so it doesn't matter much. If I got downtown I average ~350, if I go to Lancaster, I get ~400. I get the speeds I posted sitting at home a block away from a tower and at a friends place in an area that the 3G towers JUST got flipped on (yes, really).

When I tried Verizon I always had consistent data speeds city wide.

+1 Even Verizon claims 3.1 mbps as their current maximum limit.

Anyone claiming over that is either posting bogus results or we've found a flaw in the speedtest.net app.

Thats what I was thinking.... Anyway, do you have the posted documentation of where the 3.1Mbps claim is ? (sorry if its been posted before)

Very satisfied with Verizon, the download speeds were above what even I was expecting. To compare to AT&T in my area, the highest speed I've ever hit in the past 3 years was about 2.30 MBps. My average AT&T speeds were about 1.4-1.5. Verizon, so far, hasn't given me anything below 1.9.

Verizon sucks at where I work. They generally get about .40 download. AT&T is about 1.5 - 2.0. Now at home I can get about 4.0 with AT&T. Looks like I'm stuck with AT&T.

So now heres the weird part. The terrible speeds I posted were from the 3G on my phone. When I tethered my iPhone to my computer via Mywi, i get 2MB up and 1.7 Down. Shouldn't I have gotten the same results for both tests if I used the same connection?

I get the same download speed everywhere I go whether I have 1 bar or 5 bars, it's always the same DL speed although my upload speed is much higher than yours, but that also always stays the same.

My ping speed is constantly terrible here. Always full service around Dayton. Terrible upload speeds as well. But my download is good. Just the other day I downloaded the 125MB Blackberry installer via my iPhone because a friend's DSL was damn slow.

In the middle of Brooklyn (Park Slope), about a block away from Prospect Park/Grand Army Plaza. Not super fast, but useable. Besides, I'm always near Wi-Fi, so it's not a big deal.
