Not actually an iOS developer, developer but for a completely different environment/language. But still, I paid for the developer account as I like to play around with objective-c, test betas... So that would be a NO?

I've been in software development for longer than most who post here have been alive. From coding to project management. I've managed devs and formal testers.

To be honest, devs are not the best testers. Good testing actually takes a different mind set. It's good that testers know something about coding but testing is a different animal all together. We always had a formal test group for the alpha phase. But when we got to beta we included a select group of 'power users'. Much, much better results this way. Power users really know how to put software through the paces. Mostly because they actually run into the odd scenarios that are missed in the use cases. Both formal testers and devs have a tendency to follow the use cases. Conscientiously or not, it just happens.

So from my experience, folks who aren't devs but can get hold of the beta actually add a lot to the beta testing phase.

I'm not a Dev, but I love testing and I am a major geek. I always had a custom ROM on my android phones and I know better than to whine about the software being buggy.

Yes, my UDID is registered.

I wonder if Apple almost means for us non-Devs to get the software just to test it. They have to know that we are...

Have dev account... but not really a dev. I am a computer consultant and I have to support iOS, so I like to know what's coming. Also, I do send bug reports.

Well, another poll might be who of us have a developer account, and our Iphone's UDID registered, and which just installed the beta using a leaked dmg and might face problems when Beta 2 is released, or when Beta 1 expires (whatever comes first).

Maybe you didn't understood! I have dev acount and registered my iPhones UDID. Just don't have any apps made. So my account is about learning and also reporting any bugs.

Not a Dev, just a beta tester for a friend who is a Dev with an app in the store

Thanks guys great feedback

Good reply

I'm not a developer, but I'm also not one of the idiots who'll post bad reviews on the App Store for apps which aren't optimised for use with an OS that's not even public yet, and I won't create threads on forums bitching that something doesn't work.

It's people like that who ruin it for those who enjoy beta testing out with the developer circle.

If only life were that simple.

If you're asking if I have a registered account, yes, I do.
If you're asking if I have any development skills, no, I don't.

I'm an Analyst, working with developers to build applications on behalf of my clients. There's no real option for me. Not technically dev, but technically have a legit account for my role.
