Consider the source.

I know people in real life who don't own the current iPhone because they think it's too big.

None of those people are here voting in this poll.

Similarly there's people who did not choose iPhone because it is too small. I had an 5 inch screen size phone before, and the small iPhone screen size was a factor that delayed my acceptance of iPhone. Even now I still find it a regretable weakness of iPhone - that its screen is so small.

I agree. I don't want my phone to be a tablet.

I concur even more!

It's supposed to fit comfortablt in my pocket. I think 3.5 is the best compromise for being compact and still be functional. I'm not saying 3.7 or 3.3 is bad, but 4.5 isn't necessary.

And the EVO does not have the same footprint as the iPhone in that picture (I don't know if the pic is deceiving but I'm guessing EVO is bigger).

Minimum 3.7 to a max of 4.3 would work for me. The Evo is slightly larger than the iPhone. The iPhone just has a lot more wasted space on the front. I think a 3.7-4.0 could probably keep the same size. 4.3 would make the iPhone slightly larger.

I'm on the fence of evo or the new iPhone. Tough decision. Just wish froyo had a release date.

Why do I get the feeling that 90% of the people here who say the iPhone screen is just the right size would be slobbering over the new iPhone if it were going to have a 4.5" screen. There are way too many here who would stick the head in a fire if Steve Jobs said it's fun to do.

Bigger is better, but maybe Apple will keep the screen small so that it doesn't interfere with iPad sales.

I've had an HD2 and a Nexus One. The only thing i was really impressed with the HD2 was the screen, amazing. I would love to see similar on an iPhone, but i doubt we'll get it.

Google has confirmed that all Android phones launched this year will get Froyo in the second half of 2010.

Examples given:
HTC Desire
HTC Incredible
EVO 4G
MyTouch Slide
and other upcoming models.

Got that quote from someone else's post.

I'd rather keep the iPhone really portable. If I need a bigger screen, I'll use my iPad.

Too large of a screen makes for too hard to carry around. The new larger knows are just too much, when does it stop? Will we have 5 inch screens in two years?

Sometimes it's too much.

No mainstream phone on the market has a 4.5" screen. 4.3" is not mainstream (but yes, the EVO 4G is generating a lot of buzz around tech sites, but people who browse tech sites aren't really mainstream customers). 3.7" - 4" is the sweet spot in my opinion.

not really considering this is what the ipad is for and we want a phone that can fit in a pocket.

I like the current size and think it's perfect. I think the max I'd tolerate is 3.7. Anything 4 or over seems excessive.

You mean like the Dell Streak 5 inch screen coming out in July/August to an ATT store near you?

^_^

Ok I used the HD2 for a few hours and I gotta say that I was impressed. The phone is huge not the software is garbage. But for my experince the 3.5 of the iPhone os more confortable if u have normal hands(girls) the hd2 is more for real man hands. With that in mind I say this. iPhone = girls n regular hands. HD2 = real man hands.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. :p

The EVO has changed a lot. I was resistant at first but I have realized it now. iPhone is great, however it needs some changes. A bigger screen on the next go around would be nice.

That 4.3 on the EVO is SEX! However, I am also happy with the iPhone too. If it has a higher res, that will be a big difference and will tide me over.

Knew you would come around. Black bars equal lame.

I think 4.5 is too large. I would have no problem with a slight screen size increase provided the aspect ratio could be kept in close proximity to what it is now, but I really don't want a larger phone.
I agree with those who suggest that some of the 'wasted space' could go towards screen real estate, but I, too, like having a place to put my fingers while holding the phone in landscape mode, watching video, etc.
I am really looking forward to the higher resolution!
Size isn't everything.;)
